Job summary

Galliford Try is seeking an Operations Manager in Birmingham to lead site safety, delivery, and cost control on major design and build projects. You will manage multi-disciplinary teams, coordinate with planners, and ensure programmes and subsystems are executed efficiently.

The role requires experience in construction, especially on custodial Design & Build projects, and a proven track record delivering £20–£30m schemes. CSCS, first aid, and relevant qualifications are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience of working within the Construction industry, specifically on Design and Build custodial projects.
• Have experience of working for a main contractor.
• Hold an appropriate CSCS card.
• Hold a professional qualification HNC, ONC or equivalent.
• Hold current first aid certification.

Responsibilities

• Managing and maintaining the highest standards of safety.

• Agree programmes and methods of construction with Planners and production staff.
• Marshal resources for overall control and execution of works, including subcontractor selection.
• Ensure key dates, resource requirements, production rates, overhead targets are established, monitored and controlled.

• Manage multi-disciplinary teams.
• Drive cost control.
• Establish and maintain commercial and financial control systems meeting contractual requirements.

What you will be doing

• Managing and maintaining the highest standards of safety
• Contributing to the value engineering and buildability of the project
• Determination to gain agreement of programmes and methods of construction with Planners and other appropriate production personnel
• Marshalling of resources for the overall control and execution of the works including the selection of sub-contractors to carry out the works
• Ensuring that key dates, resource requirements, production rates, overhead targets etc., are established, monitored and controlled
• Running ECI projects
• Managing multi-disciplinary teams
• Drive Cost Control
• Establishing and maintaining commercial and financial control systems, procedures and standards which will meet the contractual requirements of the projects

About You

• Experience of working within the Construction industry, specifically on Design and Build custodial projects
• A proven track of success of delivering projects up to £20 - £30m in value
• Have experience of working for a main contractor.
• Good communication verbally and in written form.
• Present a clean and tidy site and have a good knowledge of the Considerate Contractor's requirements to achieve high scores.
• Hold an appropriate CSCS card
• Hold a professional qualification HNC, ONC or equivalent.
• Hold current first aid certification
