Job description

A respected civil engineering contractor is seeking a skilled Project Manager to lead the delivery of infrastructure schemes across the Cambridge and Peterborough region. The Project Manager will be responsible for the end–to–end management of multiple projects, with a strong focus on highways, flood defence, environment agency and water infrastructure.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager who thrives in a fast–paced, collaborative environment and wants to play a key role in delivering essential public infrastructure. The successful Project Manager will oversee all phases of project execution, from pre–construction through to completion, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and commercial targets.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the planning and delivery of civil engineering projects, acting as the primary Project Manager on site

Manage internal site teams and subcontractors to ensure efficient delivery and workforce coordination

Develop and implement construction phase plans, RAMS, and project–specific management documentation

Monitor costs, track budgets, and support commercial functions to ensure financial targets are met

Lead project programming, identifying and mitigating risks proactively

Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and delivery partners throughout the project lifecycle

Provide leadership and mentoring to junior staff and engineers

Ensure all site activities align with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards

Candidate Requirements:

Demonstrable experience working as a Project Manager in the civil engineering or infrastructure sector

Strong background in delivering highways, flood defence, or water–related projects

Proficient in contract management (preferably NEC) and project controls

Effective communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders

SMSTS and CSCS (essential)

Relevant qualifications such as HND, HNC or a degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
