This is a hands‑on project leadership role where you will take ownership of project delivery, bringing together engineering, production, commercial, procurement, supply chain, finance and programme teams to deliver against cost, schedule, quality and customer requirements.

As Project Manager, you will lead an Integrated Project Team (IPT), working closely with the Programme Manager/Director and functional leads to establish clear responsibilities, priorities and delivery objectives.

  • Leading the assigned Integrated Project Team and taking ownership of project deliverables.
  • Ensuring project requirements — technical, commercial, contractual, programme and delivery — are clearly understood, documented and managed.
  • Developing and maintaining project plans, budgets, work breakdown structures and responsibility matrices.
  • Leading project risk and opportunity management, including identifying causes, consequences, cost/schedule impacts and appropriate mitigation actions.
  • Monitoring and managing project performance through appropriate metrics, including Earned Value Management (EVM), Schedule Performance Index (SPI) and Cost Performance Index (CPI) using data and trend analysis to support informed decision-making.
  • Supporting resource planning and providing forward visibility of resource requirements across bids and projects.
  • Supporting project governance and ensuring appropriate lifecycle management processes are followed.
  • Facilitating effective Lessons Learned / Learning from Experience activities to drive continuous improvement.
Apply if you have most of the following
  • Proven experience in a front-line project management role, within the defence, aerospace, engineering, manufacturing or other complex/regulated sectors.
  • Experience delivering projects across one or more of bids, engineering, production, manufacturing or product delivery.
  • Experience leading or working within multi-functional Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) in a matrix-managed environment.
  • Experience managing projects through planning, execution, control and delivery, with accountability for agreed cost, schedule, quality and performance objectives.
  • Good understanding of engineering development techniques, including technical requirements management, verification and validation, technical risk and design/development activities.
  • Experience using project planning and scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6 or similar.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of Earned Value Management (EVM), including Budget at Completion (BAC), Estimate at Completion (EAC), Estimate to Complete (ETC), Schedule Performance Index (SPI) and Cost Performance Index (CPI).
  • Experience producing or interpreting project performance data and using trend and variance analysis to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Experience identifying and managing project risks and opportunities, including developing mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical, commercial and operational functions.
Desirable
  • Defence industry experience.
  • Experience delivering complex integrated systems or equipment.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering and its application within a project environment.
  • APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or PMI Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • APM Risk Level 2 or equivalent risk management experience.
  • Experience with lifecycle management processes and project governance.
  • Experience supporting Learning from Experience / Lessons Learned activities.
Additional Local Needs
  • Based on-site in Cambridge 3 days per week, with flexibility required to meet business needs.
  • Occasional travel to the South Wales site may be required.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a BPSS security check.
