Job Description

External Title: Project Manager

Location: Hinkley Point C, Somerset

About Vulcain Engineering

Vulcain Engineering, an international engineering consultancy, supports global industrial leaders in their transition to a more responsible and sustainable future. We support our customers in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of their complex infrastructure projects that will shape the world of tomorrow. With operations in 17 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clients’ most complex challenges.

In the UK, we have a key focus in the Nuclear sector, contributing to ground breaking projects, such as Hinkley Point C (HPC).

The Position: Project Manager

The Project Manager will lead the effective delivery of an on-site Production Control team, ensuring the team provides accurate, timely and high-quality information to support the successful delivery of Mechanical Electrical and HVAC installations at HPC. The role will combine team leadership, project controls, data analysis and stakeholder management, acting as a key interface between the Production Control function, project delivery teams and senior stakeholders.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Project Manager will include:

  • Lead, manage and develop the Production Control team, providing effective mentoring, coaching and performance management.
  • Monitor team and project performance against agreed targets and key performance indicators, identifying trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage team schedules across different shift patterns to ensure appropriate resource levels, seven-day coverage and continuity of service, while coordinating activities to meet priorities, deliverables and reporting requirements.
  • Produce and oversee standardised project reports, dashboards and performance information for senior management and project stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors and project delivery teams, acting as a key point of contact and facilitating effective communication.
  • Analyse project and construction data using tools such as Excel, Power BI and project databases to provide meaningful insight and support informed decision-making.
  • Use 3D and 4D digital construction tools, such as Navisworks or Synchro, to analyse progress, identify issues and support project planning and delivery.
  • Develop and improve processes, procedures and control systems to increase efficiency, data quality and the overall performance of the Production Control function.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to take a leadership role within a dynamic, technology-driven project environment. You will have significant exposure to major infrastructure delivery, working closely with senior stakeholders, clients and delivery partners while leading a team and influencing how project performance is monitored and managed. The role offers the opportunity to combine people leadership, project management, data and digital construction, with real scope to improve processes and make a visible impact on project delivery.

Preferred Profile:

Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:

  • Proven experience in Project Management or Project Controls within a construction, engineering, MEH, infrastructure or other complex project environment, with practical experience of site-based delivery.
  • Strong understanding of construction and multidisciplinary project environments, with experience working with construction teams, contractors and stakeholders. Experience within Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC (MEH) environments would be highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of project planning and controls, including scheduling, resource management, critical path analysis and monitoring performance against agreed baselines.
  • Experience using project management, data analysis and digital construction tools, including strong Excel skills and experience with Power BI, databases, Navisworks, Synchro or similar systems.
  • Proven experience leading, managing and developing teams, including setting objectives, monitoring performance and supporting the professional development of team members.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience working collaboratively with clients, contractors, construction teams and senior stakeholders.
  • A relevant HND, degree or professional project management qualification, such as APM Practitioner or equivalent, is desirable. Equivalent relevant industry experience will also be considered.
  • Reside locally to Hinkley Point C or Bridgwater, or be prepared to relocate, as this is a permanent site-based role and does not include travel expense coverage.

Occasional weekend work may be required to facilitate seven-day coverage, with enhanced pay applicable.

Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).

We offer a competitive salary tailored to your experience and background. Whether you're earlier in your career or bring more senior-level expertise, we encourage you to apply if this role aligns with your skills, or if you're open to discussing other opportunities within this discipline.
