Job summary

J Coffey Ltd. is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead subcontracted works on the HS2 programme from our Calvert site near Bicester.

The role requires a PM with a strong background in major infrastructure or rail projects, preferably with HS2 experience, responsible for programme, cost, quality, safety, and stakeholders in line with NEC contracts. You will coordinate site activities, manage risks, mentor site teams, ensure compliance with HS2 standards, and deliver accurate reporting

Qualifications

  • Senior Project Manager with proven subcontractor experience on major infrastructure or rail projects.
  • HS2 project experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts.
  • Strong knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple work fronts in a high-pressure environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of subcontracted works within HS2 framework from planning through handover.
  • Own programme delivery, ensuring works are safe, on time, and within budget.
  • Coordinate site activities, resources, plant, materials, and subcontract labour.
  • Ensure compliance with HS2 requirements, client specs, and industry standards.
  • Produce and submit SSOW; coordinate and manage Temporary Works.
  • Administer NEC contracts, including early warnings, compensation events, and changes.
  • Report progress, forecast costs, and maintain site records.
  • Support and mentor site Engineers and Supervisors.
  • Monitor risk, opportunities, and CVR throughout the project lifecycle.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of works on the HS2 programme, operating from our Calvert site near Bicester. The role is suited to a Project Manager with a strong background working for sub-contractors on major infrastructure or rail projects, ideally with direct HS2 experience. You will be responsible for managing programme, cost, quality, safety, and stakeholder interfaces while ensuring subcontract works are delivered in line with HS2 standards, NEC contracts, and principal contractor requirements.,

  • Manage the end-to-end delivery of subcontracted works within HS2 framework, from planning through to handover.
  • Take ownership of programme delivery, ensuring works are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Coordinate site activities, resources, plant, materials, and subcontract labour.
  • Ensure compliance with HS2 requirements, client specifications, and relevant industry standards.
  • Produce and submit the SSOW in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the SSOW are being adhered to.
  • Coordinate all Temporary Works and ensure timely submission to maintain program delivery.
  • Administer NEC contracts, including early warnings, compensation events, and change control.
  • Work closely with Principal Contractors, HS2 representatives, designers, and supply chain partners.
  • Lead and promote a strong health, safety, and environmental culture in line with HS2 and company policies.
  • Monitor commercial performance, forecasts, and cost value reconciliation (CVR).
  • Manage risk, mitigation strategies, and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure quality assurance processes, inspections, and documentation are completed and maintained.
  • Produce accurate project reporting, progress updates, and site records.
  • Support and mentor site teams, including Engineers and Supervisors.Proven experience as a Project Manager for a subcontractor on major infrastructure or rail projects.
  • HS2 project experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering and infrastructure works (e.g. earthworks, structures, utilities, rail civils).
  • Experience working under NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4).
  • Excellent knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple work fronts in a complex, high-pressure environment.
  • Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and cost controls.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • First Aid at Work (desirable).
