Job Description:
- Main Purpose of the role - Reporting to the Project management and the Director of Environment, Sustainability and Innovation, the main purpose of the role is to ensure appropriate management and leadership of all environment and sustainability aspects relevant to the Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme (HARP) and the wider business.
- Fulfill the role of the Project Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW).
- Lead on technical elements associated with the UK Environment and Sustainability Strategy.
- Ensure full integration of the STRABAG UK Environment and Sustainability Strategy, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 compliant Environmental and Sustainability Management System (ESMS), and other standards on the HARP project.
- Lead oversight and tasks aligned with achieving client, programme, and strategy objectives.
- Build and lead an efficient environmental and sustainability management team.
- Manage environment matters throughout the entire lifecycle of the HARP project.
- Deliver all environment and sustainability requirements, including LCA and PAS2080 compliant carbon management systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support strategic leadership on environment management and improvement.
- Oversee resourcing, recruitment, and succession planning for project teams.
- Ensure collection, evaluation, and improvement of project key performance data.
- Develop sustainability plans, processes, procedures, and guidelines.
- Lead project-specific environment management approaches aligned with the UK system.
- Implement business assurance programs and measure performance.
- Support continual improvement of environmental stewardship.
- Assist in work winning activities.
- Manage permits, licences, and consents for project delivery.
- Build and lead a team of environment professionals.
- Share best practices, lessons learned, and data.
- Upskill project teams and develop a sustainability culture.
- Develop stakeholder relations and industry participation.
- Develop status reports, identify improvements, and conduct risk assessments.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Degree qualified or equivalent experience.
- Full member of a professional institution (e.g., IEMA, IES, CIWEM, CIEEM), with relevant Chartered status.
- Expected to obtain the EUSR Water Hygiene Card.
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel.
- DBS check required prior to appointment.
- Significant environmental management experience in construction or similar large infrastructure projects.
- Strong leadership skills and experience managing teams in complex environments.
- Experience managing corporate and operational sustainability.
- Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and regulatory communication.
