Job summary

AWD online in Hope Valley, Derbyshire, is seeking a Project Engineering Manager to lead bespoke furnace projects from concept through manufacture, testing and commissioning for a global client base. You will mentor Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, coordinate design and delivery, and drive quality, reliability and cost control.

The role demands experience in embedded software/firmware, strong technical leadership, and the ability to translate customer requirements into robust engineering

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
• Embedded software and firmware development experience.
• Proficiency in C#, C++ and C; SQL; RTOS; Linux; Git knowledge.

Responsibilities

Project Engineering Manager

An exciting opportunity to lead customer-specific engineering developments for a growing manufacturer in the Peak District, delivering bespoke products for a global client base while guiding engineering teams and driving quality, innovation and continuous improvement.

JOB OVERVIEW

An opportunity to shape technically complex, customer-specific engineering projects for a global client base, from concept through commissioning

Working within the engineering team, the Project Engineering Manager will lead bespoke developments, coordinate design and delivery, and support high standards of quality, reliability and cost control.

The Project Engineering Manager will guide Mechanical and Electrical Engineers and Project Managers while acting as a senior technical contact for customers.

Based in the Peak District, the Project Engineering Manager will also drive innovation and continuous improvement across engineering procedures and services.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Project Engineering Manager include:

• End-to-End Project Delivery: Lead custom furnace projects from concept and design through manufacture, testing and commissioning, ensuring products are fit for purpose, functional, cost-effective and high quality
• Project Management and Risk: Manage concurrent custom builds, identifying and mitigating technical, financial and schedule-related risks to keep delivery on track
• Engineering Leadership: Mentor, guide and lead Mechanical and Electrical Engineers and Project Managers, supporting continuous professional development
• Customer Technical Support: Act as a senior technical contact for global customers across academia and industry, translating bespoke requirements into robust engineering solutions
• Quality and Reliability: Hold engineering teams accountable for designs and products that meet high quality and reliability standards
• Innovation and Improvement: Drive innovation and continuous improvement across engineering processes, procedures and services, keeping customer needs central

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
• Previous embedded software and firmware development experience
• Proficiency in C#, C++ and C
• Understanding of database design and SQL
• Familiarity with real-time operating systems, low-level hardware interaction and Linux-based operating systems
• Experience with version control systems such as Git
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills using tools such as oscilloscopes and debuggers
• Ability to read and understand electronic schematics and datasheets
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Assembly language experience is desirable
