Job description

Project Engineering Lead

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Project Engineering Lead to be the technical lead on a small project or a number of engineering work packages, responsible for delivering a technical solution compliant with system and legislative requirements, to schedule and cost.

Initially this role will be employed as a 6 month fixed term contract.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development team to ensure most cost effective solutions are developed, which are safe to use and compliant to requirements and statutory legislation.
  • Defining and managing engineering work packages to support delivery to schedule and budget, and reporting progress to senior management.
  • Leading engagement with the engineering team and customers, and developing strong working relationships.
  • Ensuring pragmatic and best-practice Systems Engineering techniques are adopted through development to acceptance.
  • Promoting and upholding the company values and procedures.
  • Promoting and adhering to Health, Safety and Environmental best practice.
  • Working to standards, processes & procedures to ensure rigour, resilience and continuous improvement.
  • Defining and managing product requirements throughout the development and delivery life cycle.
  • Managing product configuration and change control.
  • Ensuring lessons learnt and best practice are shared across the business to support continuous improvement and consistency.
  • Acting promptly and mobilising internal resources and team to resolve issues.
  • Identifying development needs and opportunities of team members and provide coaching / training to develop technical capability.

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with energy and enthusiasm to all levels within and outside of the business.
  • Ability to apply your skills and knowledge across a wide and diverse range of projects.
  • Ability to work accurately and at pace.
  • Experienced in planning and delivering tasks to schedule and budget, demonstrating effective time management across many projects and priorities.
  • Proven experience of supporting team members to deliver and develop through coaching and guidance.
  • Sound understanding of product safety, standards, technical risk management.
  • Broad understanding of manufacturing techniques, including riveting, bonding, fabricating.

Education:

  • Essential to be qualified to degree level in Engineering or Apprenticeship with sufficient experience in the field.
  • Desirable to have made progress towards achieving Chartered status or equivalent professional accreditation.

Experience:

  • Development of technical documentation.
  • Planning and delivery to schedules.
  • Development of engineering solutions within the Systems Engineering process framework.
  • Team Management.

Additional local needs

  • Flexible and agile in working remotely and in an office in different environments with the requirement to travel if necessary.

Security

Due to the nature of our projects, the successful candidate would need to fulfil the normal in-house BPSS procedure:

  • Identity (generally valid passport and/or driving licence)
  • Nationality and Immigration status (again, passport generally will cover this)
  • Employment History (3 years for MOD)
  • Criminal Record (unspent) via a DBS
  • Any details of significant time abroad (6+ months in the last 3 years).

Once this is complete, there would be a requirement to undertake the SC process. Each SC is dealt with on its own merits by UKSV.
