Project Engineering Leader – Cameras and C-UAS

Job Description

Due to growth of the business area we have a requirement for additional Project Engineering Leaders to support our work with Thermal Imaging Cameras and even more importantly, their application within Counter UAS Systems, within the Mission Systems Business Area.

Within this team, the projects are forward leading and involve customer intimacy and close collaboration with partner organisations. The role of Project Engineering Leader represents a chance to be at the heart of a diverse range of technologies and exciting projects across the full engineering lifecycle.

Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager, you will hold personal responsibility for the leadership of a complete development, from Requirements through to Acceptance. Project Engineering Leaders build strong relationships with Engineering Functional Leads and/or external partners to ensure the resourcing plans within the IPT they lead are realistic and any issues arising are resolved swiftly.

Project Engineering Leaders are a criticalal part of business winning activity, coordinating the collection of engineering costs, preparation of an engineering plan and holding an engineering bid review.

The role requires a candidate who is self-motivated and enthusiastic, with strong leadership and behavioural skills. The ability to foster and develop effective working relationships is key to ensure engineers perform to the levels required of the project. A strong commercial and business awareness is also essential to ensure that the engineering effort is managed effectively for each given project, delighting the customer and ensuring project success.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • The management of multi-disciplined engineering teams across multiple projects and potentially multiple partners. Working closely with Project Managers, they are responsible for delivery of the overall engineering output against time, cost and performance budgets.
  • The generation of clear and relevant engineering plans, establishing key milestones and identifying risks, opportunities and interdependencies.
  • Reviewing the current engineering positions on projects, and adapting plans as required to mitigate risks to either cost, schedule or performance budgets.
  • The preparation and communication of monthly engineering status reports
  • The coordination of engineering input into bids as part of the business winning process.
  • This role may also require attendance at regular monthly Board level Project reviews to report on status and progress.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

The following skills and experience are required:

  • Educated to a degree level in an engineering-related subject - or equivalent experience (essential)
  • Significant previous experience of leading multi-disciplined engineering teams (essential)
  • Strong understanding and proven track record of engineering lifecycles and processes on technically complex development projects (essential)
  • An understanding of imaging, interfacing with external sensors (eg Radar) and high software content developments (desirable)
  • Experience of working within the defence industry (desirable)

Intrinsic Factors

The candidate must have demonstrable relevant experience and proven success in their previous roles.

The candidate must have well-rounded engineering experience in all phases of the design lifecycle, and must have previous significant exposure to all aspects of engineering planning.

UK Travel may be a regular requirement for this role.
