Job Description

Location: Two Snowhill - Birmingham

Salary: Base salary ranges from £40,750 to £50,950 per annum, depending on skills and experience. We also offer a flexible benefits fund of 20% paid on top of the base salary, which is fully pensionable, along with a range of competitive benefits available on our website.

We seek a Project Engineer to work within the HS2 Temporary Works sector, ensuring compliance with BS5975, PAS 8811, and The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. The role involves managing risk and ensuring that HS2 and third-party requirements for the technical assurance and approval of temporary works are met throughout all project stages.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical assurance through production, checking, and submission of evidence for project stage gates.
  • Ensuring design and construction comply with standards, specifications, and procedures through planned reviews and spot-checks.
  • Supporting the discharge of NEC3 Supervisor and Principal Designer duties as per CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Communicating HS2 engineering requirements and responding to technical queries.
  • Guiding design solutions, promoting best practices, and driving efficiencies within the project team.
  • Collaborating with technical specialists to develop cost-effective mitigation strategies and system integration solutions.

Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in all work activities, supporting organizational policies and initiatives.

About You:

Skills:

  • Complex problem solving: Ability to identify and evaluate complex issues and develop solutions, managing multiple workstreams and stakeholder demands.
  • Decision making: Ability to synthesize information, evaluate options, and apply sound judgment using data and analysis.
  • Technical leadership: Providing specialist support and guidance within at least one engineering discipline.
  • Technical communication: Effectively conveying technical ideas to colleagues and stakeholders.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of UK construction regulations, including CDM requirements.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory and legislative framework relevant to HS2.
  • Commercial awareness related to cost, schedule, and delivering integrated solutions.
  • Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional experience.

Experience:

  • Managing standards, engineering, and safety activities on engineering projects.
  • Handling competing project demands with cost and schedule considerations.
