Job description

Laing O'Rourke (Expanded) are currently recruiting for a Project Engineer to work on our Monklands Hospital Replacement Project.

This role will be based in Glasgow initially, then move to site in Airdrie.

We will be delivering Scotland's first fully digital and net zero carbon hospital through the Monklands Replacement Project (MRP). The new hospital is a significant capital project with benefits for healthcare, the economy, and the local community across Lanarkshire and Scotland.

The Expanded Group provides comprehensive capabilities in the early construction phases of major projects, offering end-to-end solutions or bespoke services. Supported by a central technical design and engineering team, we deliver a full range of piling, precast concrete, post-tensioning, and structural techniques.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Utilise a Digital Engineering model to produce Visual Method Statements and Visual Task sheets, demonstrating confidence to team members.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with the Laing O'Rourke Management of Temporary Works procedure, and explain these procedures to others.
  • Determine appropriate methods of dimensional control, consulting specialists as needed, and ensure setting out data is controlled.
  • Interrogate and transfer setting out data from 3D CAD models.
  • Define scope for as-built surveys and reports to demonstrate compliance.
  • Produce and ensure the implementation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), fully addressing specifications and contractual obligations.
  • Adhere to project and company quality procedures.
  • Utilise and recommend best engineering practices.
  • Possess design process knowledge.
  • Produce and approve method statements and risk assessments.
  • Oversee procurement processes.
  • Manage a team of Senior Engineers, depending on the project scope.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent technical qualification (e.g., HNC, HND, NVQ Level 4) with demonstrable construction experience.
  • Approximately 8 years of experience in Civil Engineering.
  • Experience with structural projects.
  • Eligible to work in the UK / hold a valid UK visa.
