Job: Project Engineer (Power Station Integration)

Location: Hybrid working with one of the following locations as primary: Derby, Warrington or Manchester

Our Mission

Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) offers a British solution to a global energy challenge, placing us at the forefront of a once-in-a-generation opportunity and positioning the UK as a future world leader in clean energy technology.

The Team

The Power Station Integration team sits at the heart of our reactor programme, bringing together engineering disciplines to define how the power station operates as one integrated system. The team is responsible for coordinating complex engineering activities across multiple disciplines, ensuring designs are delivered safely, efficiently and in alignment with programme objectives. It plays a critical role in integrating engineering scope, managing interfaces and driving delivery performance across one of the UK’s most exciting clean energy programmes.

The Role

We are looking for a Project Engineer to join our Power Station Integration team. In this role, you will lead and coordinate the delivery of detailed engineering scope within the Rolls‑Royce SMR programme, acting as the primary integration point between the Project Management Organisation (PMO) and multidisciplinary engineering teams. You’ll be responsible for translating programme objectives into executable engineering plans, ensuring engineering activities are delivered safely, to quality, on schedule and within budget. Working across a complex stakeholder environment, you’ll proactively manage technical risks, dependencies and engineering subcontractor performance to support successful programme delivery. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to influence the delivery of a first‑of‑a‑kind nuclear technology programme that will help shape the future of low‑carbon energy.

What We’ll Need You To Do
  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of Power Station Integration engineering work packages.
  • Act as the primary interface between engineering teams and the Project Management Organisation.
  • Translate programme requirements into clear engineering execution plans.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Manage engineering scope, schedule, cost and quality performance.
  • Develop and maintain integrated delivery plans and recovery plans where required.
  • Support project controls activities, including forecasting, reporting and change management.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate technical risks, issues and delivery dependencies.
  • Manage engineering subcontractors and technical service providers.
  • Monitor supplier performance against agreed scope, quality and schedule requirements.
  • Support programme governance through accurate reporting of engineering performance, risks and opportunities.
  • Facilitate collaboration across engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities that enhance delivery efficiency, predictability and programme maturity.
Why Join Rolls‑Royce SMR?

This role offers the opportunity to work at the centre of one of the most ambitious engineering programmes in the UK. You’ll coordinate complex multidisciplinary engineering activities, influence major programme decisions and help drive delivery of a globally significant clean energy technology. Working within a highly collaborative environment, you’ll gain exposure to leading engineers, programme professionals and industry experts while contributing directly to the successful delivery of the Rolls‑Royce SMR programme.

What You’ll Bring
  • Essential Degree qualification in Engineering, Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience delivering engineering projects within a regulated industry.
  • Experience leading engineering delivery within large infrastructure, energy, defence, aerospace or nuclear programmes.
  • Experience delivering complex engineering work packages through detailed design phases.
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and ISO 15288.
  • Experience integrating multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience managing engineering scope, schedule, cost and quality performance.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery methodologies and engineering execution planning.
  • Experience developing engineering execution plans and integrated delivery plans.
  • Experience supporting project controls, change management and performance reporting.
  • Experience managing technical risks, issues and recovery actions within complex programmes.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence across matrix organisations.
  • Desirable Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership.
  • APM PMQ, PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent project management qualification.
  • Experience of UK nuclear industry requirements and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience working within Design Authority, Systems Engineering or Configuration Management environments.
  • Knowledge of nuclear quality standards and engineering assurance processes.
  • Knowledge of agile principles and experience working within agile delivery environments.
  • Awareness of BIM and engineering information management requirements.
