Job summary

Bechtel Corporation in the Greater London area is seeking a civil/structural specialist to conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for civil/structural aspects of a project’s civil/structural components.

You will lead design, development, modification, evaluation and constructability reviews, ensuring environmental requirements are met and aligned with project teams to drive delivery and performance targets.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in civil, environmental engineering or environmental management.
• Chartered membership of an engineering or environmental institution desirable.

Responsibilities

• Deliver design management across archaeology, landscape, ecology, water, soil, materials, waste and resources.
• Develop project scope to meet business needs and support the business case.
• Prepare design briefs for external consultants and manage design contracts.
• Develop safe, cost-effective design solutions meeting environmental requirements.
• Define asset information requirements for design and construction contracts.
• Develop sustainable design solutions to reduce construction carbon.
• Review and ensure legal, statutory and standards compliance.
• Support CDM Advisor and contractor evaluations.

Job Summary

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project's civil/structural aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil/structural components and processes. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project's civil/structural aspects are met.

Major Responsibilities

• Deliver design management on projects, ensuring environmental risks and requirements are effectively managed across archaeology, landscape, ecology, water, soil, materials, waste and resources.
• Develop project scope that meets business needs and supports the business case.
• Prepare design briefs for external consultants and manage design contracts through the design process.
• Develop safe, cost-effective design solutions that meet environmental requirements and align with GAL Engineering Standards or agreed concessions.
• Define asset information requirements for design and construction contracts.
• Develop sustainable design solutions that reduce construction carbon through energy efficiency, material selection, waste reduction and transport optimisation.
• Assess environmental impacts on programme, cost and efficiencies.
• Support Principal Designer duties with the CDM Advisor.
• Support contractor and consultant technical evaluations.
• Manage site environmental constraints and quality requirements.
• Review as-built information for commissioning and handover.
• Ensure legal, statutory and standards compliance.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Degree or equivalent in civil, environmental engineering or environmental management.
• Chartered membership of an engineering or environmental institution desirable.

• UK environmental legislation, consents and regulator engagement.
• Project close-out and handover management.
• Construction health, safety and environmental awareness.
• Practical problem-solving skills.
