Job description

Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.

The Role:

We are seeking a highly capable Project Engineer - EDU to lead the mechanical design and technical project management of an Electric Drive Unit (EDU) for a new PHEV program. This role is responsible for coordinating the delivery of mechanical EDU systems from concept through production, working closely with cross-functional teams and external suppliers, including our customer's strategic partners.

Area of Responsibility

Technical Project Management
• Own the mechanical delivery of 1x EDU, ensuring on-time and high-quality results.
• Drive day-to-day project activities including planning, DFMEA coordination, BOM management, and requirement tracking.
• Coordinate with Aston Martin's suppliers to ensure timely delivery of EDU components and sub-systems.

Design & Development
• Support and lead design and development of EDU assemblies including geartrains, housings, and thermal systems.
• Collaborate with eMotor and Inverter teams to ensure seamless integration within the EDU.
• Support the delivery of high-quality CAD models and 2D drawings, ensuring compliance with Design for Manufacture (DfM) and Design for Assembly (DfA) principles.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Organize and lead cross-functional design reviews.
• Support thermal simulation and mechanical design teams in achieving optimal EDU designs and thermal solutions.
• Work with the Test & Development team on DVP planning, execution, and issue resolution.

Quality & Validation
• Define and manage component functional targets and ensure robust requirement capture.
• Drive resolution of engineering concerns using eCMS and engineering quality tools (e.g., DFMEA, Robustness Studies).
• Lead and contribute to DFMEA and support PFMEA activities with suppliers.

Documentation & Reporting
• Prepare Change Tracking Documents (CTDs), Engineering Release Notices (ERNs), and ensure proper approvals.
• Present project status at design reviews, vehicle package meetings, PMT reviews, and program gateways.
• Evaluate and present multiple design trade-offs to achieve optimum cost, weight, and performance targets.

Key Experience:

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Strong experience in mechanical design and project engineering, ideally in EDU or transmission systems.
Experience leading component/system development projects in the automotive or eMobility domain.
Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., Siemens NX, Teamcenter) and mechanical analysis fundamentals.
Strong knowledge of DFMEA, DVP&R, BOM management, and product development processes.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with Tier 1 or OEM partners on electric drive or powertrain systems.
Familiarity with AML development processes and documentation (e.g., eCMS, ERNs).
Understanding of thermal management and integration within powertrain systems.
Exposure to change management and engineering release systems.
