Project Engineer – Development

Purpose

SP Energy Networks are working to achieve transmission network targets set by the Scottish and UK Government as part of our journey to Net Zero. SP Energy Networks will invest over £5bn in transmission projects across our transmission network in central and southern Scotland by 2030.

The Strategic Projects team, within SP Energy Networks, is responsible for the development and delivery of large scale onshore strategic transmission projects that enable the delivery of NetZero.

As a Project Engineer within Strategic Projects, you will assist the Project Manager/Senior Project Manager with the development of projects, progressing work packages and project administration duties to a high quality and standard, while maintaining a core focus on design safety.

Responsibilities
Supporting the Project Management team to ensure that all interfaces are safely and efficiently managed, you will assist with delivery of accurate capital expenditure forecasts and output projections on all development projects to ensure compliance with full contractual and financial governance.

Promoting and implementing external and internal stakeholder engagement, you will ensure timely identification, management, resolution and escalation of project risks and threats whilst complying with SP Energy Networks governance which is required for professional and efficient development of projects.

Conforming to all Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality management regulations, you will assist in risk, programme, safety and financial project management workshops, including meetings to progress projects in accordance with best practice, ensuring compliance with SP Transmission internal governance.

In support of a culture of continuous improvement, you will be responsible for disseminating all lessons learned across the wider organisation and ensuring that project and contract reviews are conducted in a timely manner to inform and enhance future practices.

What you’ll bring

To be successful in a role you will need to demonstrate (as minimum) your experience within an infrastructure project (Electricity, Gas, Water, Telecoms, Nuclear or Renewables).

Educated to HNC / Degree in relevant discipline or equivalent experience, you will hold a full and current UK driving licence.

Awareness of project management methodology, risk management and control is required, as is demonstratable experience of financial control and/or forecasting.

With an understanding of key interfaces to Project Development and Delivery, you will possess an understanding of Town and Country Planning and Section 37 processes with respect to project development.

A Project management qualification would be advantageous.
