Description

Full Time

An exciting Defuel Project Engineer opportunity has arisen at our site in Devonport at HM Naval base, the largest naval base in Western Europe. It has been operating since the 16th Century and is the sole nuclear repair and refuelling facility for the Royal Navy.

We’re a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority.

Join us and we’ll provide an environment where you can be yourself. An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to opportunities to grow your career.

As the Defuel Project Engineer, you will be accountable to the MOD PWR Defuel Project Manager for assisting in project management aspects of the PWR Defuel Execution Project and the wider PWR Defuel Programme.

We offer excellent development, a competitive salary, and benefits including bonus, employee support assistance, and discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working allows balancing time between office, home, or remote locations. It’s a flexible, locally managed arrangement. Attending the workplace for collaboration and specific reasons is expected about three days per week.

What you will be doing:

The principal objective is to assist in managing the delivery of the Design Authority’s requirements for pre-defuel project activities, irradiated fuel removal, fuel handling, and post-defuel engineering activities, ensuring the submarine is restored to a safe state for dismantling.

  • Managing known and potential safety issues (SAR & RT) and participating in safety boards as defined in the Safety Management Plan.
  • Providing technical support for resolving queries and operational issues.
  • Leading investigations into operational issues to establish root causes.
  • Introducing containment and corrective actions.
  • Providing technical surveillance and quality assurance audits to support continuous improvement.
  • Developing and approving technical content for publications and communications, including acceptance limits.
  • Setting reliability targets based on historical data and monitoring performance.
  • Predicting future safety and reliability performance using statistical techniques.
  • Identifying cost reduction opportunities by reviewing engineering policies and maintenance documentation.

Who we’re looking for:

At Rolls-Royce, we embrace agility, boldness, collaboration, and simplicity. These values are essential in our assessment and all roles.

  • Experience in budget management, change control, and conflict resolution.
  • Technical project management experience, suitable to assist MOD as the ‘Intelligent Customer’.
  • Familiarity with P6 (Primavera).
  • Nuclear experience.
  • Knowledge of component/system functionality and numerical methods.
  • Understanding of in-service operational environments, including regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting or leading cross-functional teams.
  • Engineering or Numerical degree (or equivalent with experience).

We’re committed to diversity and inclusion. We believe diverse perspectives lead to greater success. We support a culture of respect and opportunity for all.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines, you must hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without caveats. Rolls-Royce will support your application if you don’t currently have it.

Due to security reasons, you must hold UK nationality. Dual nationals require additional checks before starting work.
