Job summary

Nestlé S.A. in York is seeking a Project Engineer to lead and support design, implementation and start-up of capital investment projects across manufacturing sites.

You will ensure design specifications and Nestlé standards are met while collaborating with multiple functions. The role reports to the Capex Manager within the Confectionery Category and covers York and Girvan sites, with projects ranging from £50k to £20 million.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship/degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of modern automation systems and interrogation methods.
• Solid understanding of Health & Safety legislation (CE, PUWER) and machinery safety.
• Experience leading engineering projects in manufacturing, ideally FMCG.
• Knowledge of CDM regulations beneficial.
• Understanding of process and packaging equipment advantageous.
• Proficient IT skills including MS Office; familiarity with AutoCAD LT; MS Project.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver capital engineering projects within budgets and timescales.
• Develop project scope, schedules and budgets for new investments.
• Collaborate with project teams to ensure safe, compliant outcomes and high safety standards.
• Champion health & safety compliance and site procedures.
• Lead commissioning and start-up of plant/equipment against performance targets.

• Coordinate and support third-party contractors on site.
• Work with Operations, R&D, Marketing and Logistics to align scope and budgets.
• Support environmental compliance and minimise environmental impact.
• Report SHE incidents and contribute to site SHE objectives.

We are looking for talented people to join our Engineering Projects Team as a Project Engineer. The main focus of this role is to lead and support the design, implementation and start-up phases of capital investment projects across our manufacturing sites. You'll play a key role in ensuring project objectives, design specifications and Nestlé standards are delivered successfully, while working closely with colleagues across multiple functions.

This role reports directly to our Capex Manager within the Confectionery Category. Geographically, the role supports both our York and Girvan sites. The team partners with all factory functions to deliver the engineering elements of projects ranging from £50k to £20 million. These projects vary from new production line installations to modifications of existing assets and cover a wide range of mechanical and electrical engineering activities.

Your impact

We're looking for a Project Engineer who enjoys working collaboratively, building strong relationships and finding practical solutions to challenges. In this role you will:

• Lead and deliver capital engineering projects within agreed budgets and timescales
• Support the development of project scope, schedules and budgets for new investments
• Work with project teams to deliver successful outcomes while maintaining high standards of safety and hygiene
• Champion compliance with Health & Safety legislation and site procedures
• Lead the commissioning and start-up of plant and equipment against agreed performance standards
• Contribute to the development of project scopes, budgets and timing plans for projects ranging from £50k to £1m
• Coordinate and support third-party contractors working on site
• Collaborate with Operations and site functions, as well as R&D, Marketing and Logistics teams, to align project scope, timelines and budgets
• Work within multi-disciplinary teams to achieve shared project goals
• Support environmental compliance and help minimise the environmental impact of project activities
• Report any SHE incidents or concerns and contribute positively to site SHE objectives

The ideal candidate will demonstrate, but is not limited to:

• A completed apprenticeship, degree or qualification in Electrical Engineering
• Technical knowledge of modern automation systems with the ability to interrogate
• Strong technical knowledge and practical experience of Health & Safety legislation, including CE, PUWER and machinery safety
• Experience of contributing to or leading engineering projects within a manufacturing environment, ideally FMCG
• Knowledge or experience of CDM regulations would be beneficial
• Knowledge and understanding of process and packaging equipment would be advantageous
• Good IT skills, including MS Office and AutoCAD LT, preferable MS Project
