Job summary

Dalkia UK is seeking a Project Engineer to coordinate the technical development and delivery of Energy Performance Contract (EPC) and decarbonisation projects from concept through to construction and commissioning.

You will work alongside Project Managers, Design Consultants, Commercial teams and Construction teams to manage engineering workstreams, coordinate technical activities and deliver innovative low‑carbon engineering solutions for our clients.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering engineering or construction projects.
  • Good understanding of Mechanical and Electrical building services systems.
  • Knowledge of low‑carbon technologies such as heat pumps, CHP, district heating or renewable energy systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of project delivery, programme and cost.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle from concept through to construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Manage technical workstreams to ensure engineering deliverables are achieved safely, on programme and within budget.
  • Monitor technical progress and identify risks or issues that may affect project delivery, implementing solutions where appropriate.
  • Attend project meetings and site visits to coordinate engineering activities and resolve technical issues.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure engineering activities align with the overall project programme and commercial objectives.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, consultants and specialist subcontractors.
  • Develop practical, buildable and cost-effective engineering solutions in collaboration with internal and external design teams.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation for quality, accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate technical surveys, investigations and site assessments.
  • Ensure technical information is produced and issued in accordance with project programmes.

Project Engineer – Energy & Decarbonisation

As a Project Engineer, you will coordinate the technical development and delivery of Energy Performance Contract (EPC) and decarbonisation projects from concept through to construction and commissioning.

Working alongside Project Managers, Design Consultants, Commercial teams and Construction teams, you will manage engineering workstreams, coordinate technical activities and ensure engineering solutions are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with project objectives, programme and budget.

The role will involve managing design development, coordinating multidisciplinary stakeholders, supporting procurement and construction activities, and delivering innovative low‑carbon engineering solutions for our clients.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Project Delivery
  • Coordinate engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle from concept through to construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Manage technical workstreams to ensure engineering deliverables are achieved safely, on programme and within budget.
  • Monitor technical progress and identify risks or issues that may affect project delivery, implementing solutions where appropriate.
  • Attend project meetings and site visits to coordinate engineering activities and resolve technical issues.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure engineering activities align with the overall project programme and commercial objectives.
Technical Coordination
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, consultants and specialist subcontractors.
  • Develop practical, buildable and cost-effective engineering solutions in collaboration with internal and external design teams.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation for quality, accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate technical surveys, investigations and site assessments.
  • Ensure technical information is produced and issued in accordance with project programmes.
  • Identify engineering risks and work with project teams to develop appropriate mitigation measures.
Commercial & Procurement
  • Coordinate technical procurement activities by preparing specifications and reviewing supplier and subcontractor proposals.
  • Evaluate technical submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities that improve project outcomes without compromising safety, quality or performance.
  • Coordinate technical changes throughout the project lifecycle and assess their impact on design, programme and delivery.
Stakeholder Management
  • Build effective working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal project teams.
  • Act as a technical point of contact for allocated projects.
  • Attend design meetings, progress meetings and client workshops.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Commercial Managers and Construction teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with company procedures, statutory requirements and industry standards.
  • Promote safe engineering solutions and support compliance with the CDM Regulations.
  • Coordinate quality inspections, commissioning activities and project handovers.
  • Promote sustainable engineering practices throughout project delivery.
Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Keep up to date with engineering technologies, legislation and industry best practice.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, project delivery and technical standards.
  • Share knowledge and best practice across project teams.

Essential
Knowledge, Skills, Education & Experience
  • HNC/HND, recognised apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering.
  • Experience delivering engineering or construction projects.
  • Good understanding of Mechanical & Electrical building services systems.
  • Knowledge of low‑carbon technologies such as heat pumps, CHP, district heating or renewable energy systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Strong organisational, planning and problem‑solving skills.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of project delivery, programme and cost.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
Desirable
  • Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience delivering Energy Performance Contract (EPC) or decarbonisation projects.
  • Experience within healthcare, education or wider public sector environments.
  • Knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
  • Understanding of the RIBA Plan of Work.
  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, a recognised professional engineering institution.
