Job description

Project Engineer

Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire


Working hours: 8am - 5pm


Under the general direction of the Project Engineering Manager, this position is responsible for managing multiple capital projects from evaluation through implementation. The Project Engineer works with stakeholder teams to deliver reliable solutions, employing performance-based technical specifications, procurement, FATs, installation, commissioning, start-up, operation, maintenance, and improvement of process and packaging machinery and manufacturing support systems.


Main Responsibilities
  • Monitor implementation of capital projects to ensure timely completion and proper expenditure to achieve the targeted IRR % results. Perform post-installation audits, reconcile financial metrics, and share learnings for future improvements.
  • Prepare final capital request documentation following best practice procedures.
  • Coordinate the selection, design, and layout of processing and packaging machinery to optimize efficiency, reliability, space utilization, and production capacity.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and maintenance teams to provide technical support during the design, purchase, installation, commissioning, start-up, operation, maintenance, and improvement of process and packaging systems.
  • Provide technical leadership to cross-functional project teams to resolve challenges during project execution.
  • Evaluate, develop, document, and implement growth, cost reduction, or compliance projects, ensuring key targets are met.
  • Participate in operational improvement activities such as Focused Improvements, SMED, packaging system analysis, Lean Manufacturing projects, and HPWS.
  • Ensure timely filing of regulatory documents with relevant local and national authorities related to projects.
  • Work closely with site training, vendors, and operations teams to facilitate effective training and ensure knowledge transfer, validating manufacturing certification processes.
Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant Engineering discipline (Chemical, Food Processing, Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering) preferred.
  • Relevant experience in Project Engineering or similar roles within FMCG, preferably food processing.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across organizational levels and with external stakeholders such as vendors and government agencies.
  • Ethical behavior and professional maturity.
  • Ability to adapt to complex, ambiguous, and fast-paced environments with changing priorities.
  • Willingness to learn and develop a career within Supply Chain.
