Job summary

Ross-shire Engineering Limited is seeking a Project Engineer for our Cumbernauld office to join the Asset Operations & Maintenance team on a full-time, permanent basis. You will oversee multi-disciplinary projects across water and power sectors, coordinating design, construction and client liaison to deliver high-quality outcomes.

You will work alongside an experienced team, access the in-house design function, and lead site surveys, documentation, and safety planning to meet project objectives

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven PM track record with engineering or supervisory background.
  • Water industry experience is advantageous.
  • Strong time management and multitasking in a busy environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of mechanical/electrical engineering tools and materials.
  • Self-driven and able to work individually or in teams.
  • Innovative thinker; able to learn and apply new technologies.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks in high-pressure settings.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise on projects from enquiry to final acceptance and documentation.
  • Direct and allocate work to trades and apprentices with focus on quality and safety.
  • Ensure availability of technical information for design/construction delivery.
  • Review drawings, specs and schedules; prepare final documentation.
  • Identify and resolve non-conformances in design and construction.
  • Manage system/product design alignment with specs and technical aspects.
  • Complete contract documents and manage QA deliverables.
  • Contribute to tender, design and construction programmes with progress updates.
  • Liaise with subcontractors on tenders, quotes and H&S reviews.
  • Prepare Construction Phase Health and Safety Plans under CDM with Principal Contractor responsibility.

What Are We Looking For

Due to continued growth, our Asset Operations & Maintenance team is expanding, and we're looking for a Project Engineer to join us on a full-time, permanent basis at our Cumbernauld office.

Our O&M team delivers a diverse portfolio of small to medium-sized, multi-discipline projects, specialising in the repair, replacement, design, and installation of equipment and plant systems across the Water and Power sectors. We also support clients in the Transport, Food & Beverage, and Oil & Gas industries throughout Scotland, including the Northern and Western Isles, giving you the opportunity to work on a wide variety of technically interesting projects.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious engineer who's ready to take on new challenges, make a real impact, and accelerate their career. Supported by a highly experienced team, you'll play a key role in delivering projects, building strong client relationships across our framework agreements, and helping shape innovative engineering solutions. You'll also have direct access to our in-house design team, enabling real-time collaboration and technical expertise to deliver the best outcomes for our clients.

Some of your key duties include:
  • Project liaison from enquiry stage to final acceptance and documentation, meeting with Clients as required to discuss specific requirements and carry out site surveys as required.
  • Instructing, directing, controlling and allocating work to Trade Operatives & Apprentices, with attention to quality, productivity and safety.
  • Ensure all technical information is available when required for the delivery of design and/or construction.
  • Interpret and check drawings, specifications and schedules for all activities, directing works accordingly & prepare final documentation (As Built Drawings etc.).
  • Early Identification and resolution of non-conformance within both the design and construction phase
  • Manage the design of systems and products, ensuring alignment with design specifications and technical aspects.
  • Completion of contract documents
  • Management of Project Quality deliverables and procedures ensuring compliance with Internal and Client Quality Systems.
  • Input to Tender, design and construction programmes including progress updates and reporting.
  • Subcontractor liaison, management including tender specification, quotation and H&S documentation review and appraisal.
  • Preparation of Construction Phase Health and Safety Plans for projects with Principal Contractor responsibility under CDM.
What do you need?
  • Qualification to degree / HND/ HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven track record in Project Management, with an Engineering or Supervisory background.
  • Water industry experience highly advantageous but other specialist engineering industries will be considered.
  • Good time management, with the ability to multitask, plan and organise day to day workloads within a busy environment.
  • Good communication skills in both verbal and written communication and ability to follow, interpret and explain technical instructions.
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to all engineering trades, particularly Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
  • Driven, with an ability to work individually and with teams under your direction.
  • Innovative thinking, with and ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
