About the role

As NWG (Northumbrian Water Group) begins AMP8, our largest ever 5-year investment programme, with circa £3billion investing in capital projects, we are expanding our Engineering team and are looking for Project Engineers to deliver projects across the Essex & Suffolk regions.

We have an exciting multi-year programme of major investment to increase resilience in our water services, whilst enhancing and protecting our environment. Our Projects are spread across clean water whilst our wastewater sites are situated around the North East operating region. We offer flexible working, with the potential to have a hybrid working approach balancing work-from-home, in our offices and at Project sites.

You will work for a Principal Engineer, as part of a multi-disciplinary team of Project Engineers with technical disciplines including mechanical, electrical, civil, instrumentation, geo-technical, environmental and process. The Asset Engineering team are accountable for providing Engineering support and input to our construction projects, writing technical standards and supporting option studies.

You will ensure our contracts are correctly set up for success, working with the Project Management team and Contractors to design and build our projects and ensure commissioning and handover is done correctly. You will play a key part in ensuring delivery of safe, reliable assets that provide reliable and affordable water and wastewater services for our customers.

You will ensure NWG makes the best TOTEX and value-based decisions with asset longevity at the forefront of delivery. The role requires a strong Health and Safety focus to implement safe systems of work and address any practices which pose a risk to colleagues. You will support the onsite delivery of construction projects through stakeholder management of the supply chain and ensure the assets in construction maintain operational performance whilst optimising the integration of new equipment into our asset base.

About you

You will have experience working effectively as part of a team and be prepared to ask questions and offer answers and advice whilst demonstrating the ability to work independently and autonomously.

You will demonstrate a structured approach and capability to offer impartial and balanced engineering views, supported by data and analysis where appropriate. Ideally you will have experience in the water/utilities sectors or transferrable knowledge and skillset from other sectors, combined with a willingness and capability to learn.

You will be able to demonstrate effective leadership, communications skills and company values. This will include developing and driving team initiatives in areas such as process governance, technical assurance, innovation and HSEQ.

In addition, you will be able to build strong and successful stakeholder relationships within the Engineering Team as well as other departments including Capital Delivery, Asset Intelligence, Maintenance and Operational Teams.

The successful candidate must support the continuing establishment, growth, and promotion of the team. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills and established leadership behaviours that encourage and support development, inclusivity, and progression at both an individual and departmental level.
