Job summary

Anglian Water is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Water Recycling Operations team, delivering sludge-focused improvement projects across our operational sites.

This role supports engineering and process improvements that enhance sludge thickening and dewatering performance, improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, strengthen environmental compliance, and increase resilience across our sludge treatment processes.

Qualifications

  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of wastewater systems and processes.
  • Strong knowledge of sludge treatment processes and the end-to-end sludge lifecycle.
  • Experience working within a regulated operational environment.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements within operational settings.
  • Experience operating under CDM principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement practical solutions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and operational teams.
  • A proactive and continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to support change and embed new ways of working.

Responsibilities

  • Support investigations into underperforming sludge thickening and dewatering assets to identify root causes.
  • Support improvements in upstream sludge management to optimise downstream dewatering performance.
  • Assist the delivery of a portfolio of sludge improvement projects from concept through to implementation and handover.
  • Support commissioning and readiness of new sludge assets to ensure performance outcomes.
  • Monitor project delivery against performance, cost and timeline targets.
  • Establish performance monitoring frameworks and KPIs to sustain improvements long-term.

Job description

Salary: £44,000 - £53,000 per annum


Location: Flexible within the Anglian Water region


Contract: Permanent


Working Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week (flexible working opportunities available)

About the role

We're looking for a Project Engineer to join our Water Recycling Operations team, supporting the delivery of sludge-focused improvement projects across our operational sites.


This is an exciting opportunity to support engineering and process improvements that enhance sludge thickening and dewatering performance, improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, strengthen environmental compliance, and increase resilience across our sludge treatment processes.


Working closely with operational teams, technical specialists, and delivery partners, you'll help identify opportunities for improvement, develop practical solutions, and support the successful implementation of projects that deliver measurable business benefits. You'll play an important role in embedding sustainable improvements into business-as-usual operations while supporting Anglian Water's commitment to environmental excellence and operational performance.


What will you be doing?


  • Supporting investigations into underperforming sludge thickening and dewatering assets to identify root causes and improvement opportunities
