Project Engineer – Energy from Waste Facility

Location: Kent

Salary: £45,000 - £66,000 (DOE)

Role Type: Perm, Full Time – Monday to Friday 40 Hours

About the Role

We’re working with a leading Energy from Waste facility looking to strengthen their engineering function with the addition of a skilled Project Engineer. This role is key to driving continuous improvement across plant reliability, safety, and performance by delivering critical upgrades and supporting planned maintenance projects. From project planning to commissioning, you'll have end-to-end responsibility for engineering delivery across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • At least 5 years’ experience in Energy from Waste, power generation, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Sound understanding of steam systems, pressure equipment, and associated legislation.
  • Practical experience in project delivery, including cost, schedule, and contractor management.
  • Familiarity with Maintenance Management Systems and statutory compliance requirements.
  • A degree in engineering or comparable technical experience.
  • Recognised health and safety certification (e.g., IOSH or NEBOSH).
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • The capability to step in for senior engineers when needed

Experience & Qualifications

  • Leading small to mid-scale plant improvement and upgrade projects.
  • Managing external contractors and monitoring on-site work performance and safety.
  • Supporting major outages and shutdown events from planning through to completion.
  • Helping enhance and optimise the site’s maintenance strategies.
  • Driving improvements in plant availability and efficiency.
  • Ensuring compliance with HSE regulations and site-specific safety protocols.
  • Coaching and mentoring less experienced staff, including apprentices.
  • Conducting root cause analysis and applying continuous improvement principles
