Job summary

Unum Aircraft Seating in Crawley, West Sussex, is seeking a hands-on Project Engineer to own engineering activities from initial design through testing and delivery. The role combines practical design work with project, supplier and customer management in a hybrid, full-time capacity.

You will coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering disciplines, programme management and procurement, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and on-schedule delivery for premium seating

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • Hands-on design, development and testing experience.
  • Ability to coordinate across engineering, procurement and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering activities across design, development, testing and delivery of aircraft seating products.
  • Coordinate design, testing, suppliers and production.
  • Act as key interface between Engineering, Programme Management, Test, FEA, Procurement and Customers/Integrators.
  • Plan and manage engineering activities and milestones against programme timelines.
  • Identify and resolve technical and programme issues, escalating risks as needed.

What you will be doing as aProject Engineer at Unum

As Project Engineer,you’lllead and coordinate engineering activities across the design, development,testingand delivery of ouraircraftseating products.


You’llcombine hands-on engineering with project,supplierand customer management, acting as a key technical interface between Engineering, Programme Management, Test, FEA, Procurement, Suppliers,Customersand Integrators.


Your keyresponsibilities include;


Engineering & Design

  • Lead product andcomponentrequirementsacross multidisciplinary engineering teams.

  • Maintainaircraftinterfaces,clearancesand design requirements.

  • Review engineering designs and technical documentation to ensure programme, customer and regulatory requirements are met.

Analysis & Testing

  • Analysis cabin space and ensure compliance to regulation

  • Define and coordinate test activities

  • Review results and drive design improvements whererequired.

Project & Technical Leadership

  • Plan and manage engineering activities,prioritiesand deliverables against programme milestones.

  • Coordinate design, testing,suppliersand production.

  • Identifyand resolve technical and programme issues, escalating risks whererequired.

  • Longer term responsibility to coordinate engineering resources and drive assigned activities through to completion.

Commercial Management

  • Provide engineering input to bids, cost estimates,procurementand commercial activities.

Customer & Integrator Interface

  • Act as a key engineering interface with customers and system integrators.

  • Lead engineering content for key programme reviews, including ITCM, PDRandCDR

  • Build strong customer relationships and proactively resolve technical issues.

Engineering Area / Application Lead

  • Own engineering deliverables for assigned areas or applications.

  • Coordinate cross-functional support and ensure activitiesremainon schedule.

  • Report progress,risksand issues to the wider business.

What we LookFor inyou as our Project Engineer

  • A degree inMechanical Engineering, or similar.

  • Strong engineering design and problem-solving capability.

  • Ability to work at both detailedcomponentand overall product level.

  • Strong project management and organisational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver against challenging schedules.

  • Effective leadership and stakeholder management skills.

  • Strong communicationskills, with the ability to communicate effectively with engineers, suppliers,customersand senior stakeholders.

  • Commercial awareness and understanding of cost drivers.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Proactive approachtoidentifyingand resolving technical and programme issues.

  • Ability to take ownership and drive activities through to completion.
