Job description

Do you have a broad technical background in engineering and delivery? Are you looking for a role where you can participate in the technical development and project management of multiple projects, developing your knowledge and management skills?

To ensure the delivery of our project workload over the coming decade, we have a great opportunity for a Project Engineer to work within the capital delivery project management team.
What you'll do

Our YTL Construction business is a multi-disciplinary design and construct contractor, responsible for the delivery of an annual £160m programme of water treatment, wastewater and network projects across our region.

Based in our award-winning operations centre in Bath, you will play a key role within a growing team working on an expanding number of projects within the region. The post will include site visits and travel to satellite offices.

As a Project Engineer, you will report to the project manager and be responsible for managing the design process and acting as an interface between consultants, contractors, internal teams and stakeholders to ensure designs are delivered in accordance with our requirements.

This will include:

  • overseeing the design phases of engineering schemes
  • preparing and agreeing design briefs, fee proposals, programmes and the general management of contracts (NEC4) to ensure the design team delivers in line with the agreed financial approvals and meets key dates
  • coordinating and organising surveys to provide client data to establish project scope
  • ensuring that recommended solutions are sustainable, environmentally suitable and best value in terms of whole-life costs
  • representing the client and supporting the Project Manager in dealing with the various stakeholder interfaces
  • attending and where appropriate chairing workshops and regular design meetings to review design proposals and consider issues such as buildability, commissioning, HAZOPs, control philosophy and user requirement specification reviews
  • managing drawing and document administration to ensure consultants and contractors meet project and regulatory requirements
  • reviewing construction and design packs including health and safety documentation.
What you'll need

Ideally, you will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in engineering and have a technical background. MEICA experience would be an advantage but is not essential.

You will also:
  • have experience in a water utility or the construction industry
  • have a full appreciation of the key civil, mechanical and electrical design interfaces involved in delivering a project
  • be a confident and effective communicator with both internal colleagues and external contractors
  • have experience in the construction design and management (CDM) regulations
  • be IT literate and comfortable with report writing
  • have an understanding of treatment processes
  • have a valid driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
What you'll receive
  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary, subject to conditions.
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • An interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone to work for us.
