Job: Project Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Home Based/UK Wide. Offices are based in Windsor/Stockport. Candidates must be prepared to travel UK-wide on occasion for site surveys and installation quality checks. While the role offers flexibility for home working, attendance at the Stockport office for meetings once or twice a month is required.
Duration: 6+ months
Pay: Negotiable - Inside IR35 and paid via umbrella

This role involves contributing to the delivery of sustainable, zero-carbon, innovative, and high-quality design solutions for mechanical building services systems. Confidence in client-facing situations and knowledge of mechanical building services installations are essential.

Role: An exciting opportunity for a self-motivated electrical/EC&I engineer to contribute from day one and grow in capability and responsibility. Suitable for Design Engineers in building services, renewables, or related industries, or those with a background in electrical installation.

The role is within our Public & Private Sector business, delivering energy efficiency and decarbonisation projects for clients such as the NHS, hotels, leisure centres, and industrial sectors. You will work alongside a Lead Engineer, preparing electrical and control engineering deliverables across the full project lifecycle, from site surveys and initial concepts to detailed design, commissioning support, and handover.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design of distributed and renewable energy schemes
  2. Detailed design of LV distribution systems
  3. Specification of HV installation works
  4. Design for compliance with GB Distribution Code (G99, G100, etc.)
  5. Electrical calculations including load estimation, equipment sizing, cable & protection device selection & specification
  6. Preparation of construction-ready detailed designs: single line diagrams, control panel drawings, block cable diagrams, cable schedules, and materials lists
  7. Defining scope of works and interfaces for subcontractor packages
  8. Proficiency with AutoCAD LT and Amtech (or equivalent)
  9. Knowledge of legislation, standards, safe working practices, and environmental best practices
  10. Knowledge of control systems for power management and building controls (PLCs, SCADA, BMS, etc.)
  11. Ensuring drawings are produced accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision
  12. Ability to work in a dynamic team environment with high standards for meeting targets
  13. Collaborative approach, sharing knowledge and assisting team members
  14. Strong presentation and communication skills
  15. Supporting procurement or construction teams as required
  16. Personal organization and prioritization skills aligned with CBS interests

Minimum Requirements:

  • CIBSE / IET Engineering Council accredited honours degree in Electrical Engineering or HNC in a relevant discipline, with ongoing commitment to higher education and achieving or working towards IEng or CEng status
  • Experience in building services design, site surveys, inspections, snagging, and stakeholder meetings
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals and energy technologies with some post-education experience
  • Excellent written English skills for technical documentation
  • Attention to detail and thorough approach from concept to detailed design
  • Effective cross-functional communication skills for engaging stakeholders at all levels
  • Knowledge of Safety in Design, CDM 2015 regulations, and safety reviews
  • Experience with EPLAN (advantage), earthing/lightning protection (advantage), fire detection, machinery safety, or metering (advantage)
  • Legal requirements: Not on any visa expiring before December 2030, UK driving license, proof of UK residency
