Samuel Knight is working with a leading, globally renowned EPC company, which is looking to hire a Project Director to deliver projects in the T&D sector.
Overview
The Project Director is responsible for the strategic and operational management of projects. You will ensure the appropriate use of resources in accordance with project specifications and budgets. The successful candidate will plan, monitor, and manage EPC projects from initiation to completion.
Objectives of the role
HSE and Quality
Ensure Safety, Health, and Environmental requirements are implemented to the highest standards and are aligned with company standards and customer governance/requirements.
Ensure permits and legal papers are secured ahead of the project.
Ensure the highest quality standards are upheld throughout the project’s lifecycle.
Ensure project quality plans have been developed and implemented.
P&L
Hold overall responsibility for managing large-scale, multimillion-pound projects, including commercial, technical, and site construction responsibilities that achieve or exceed performance targets.
Devise cost-effective plans to enable effective project completion.
Monitor building progress, oversee finance, and ensure project quality.
Leadership
Manage a portfolio of complex projects, including resource allocations, recruitment, and individual performance challenges.
Manage project managers and enable them to supervise and manage their own teams.
Project lifecycle
Secure required resources and use formal processes and tools to manage resources, budgets, risks, and changes.
Understand the broader organizational context and external changes, aligning project approach, timing, and impact accordingly.
Make strategic decisions and provide leadership and direction to project managers.
Support future order capture by advising and providing input to sales and tendering teams.
Stakeholder Management
Act as the senior customer interface for allocated projects, ensuring customer expectations are exceeded.
Co-responsible (with the support of the Supply Chain Function) for selecting subcontracted activities, plant, and services, including negotiating contract terms and conditions.
Meet regularly with clients, stakeholders, and project managers to report on project progress.
Liaise with clients and build strong working relationships.
Market Knowledge
Take keen interest in learning about new developments, market trends, competitors’ products, and activities.
Manage risks to avoid delays or reputational damage.
Manage opportunities both towards customers and supply chain partners/sub-contractors.
Experience and competencies
Experience in Electrical Transmission projects, including Civil Construction.
Experience in risk mitigation and opportunity management.
Proven track record of managing large-scale, multimillion-pound projects.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business administration, or demonstrable experience delivering complex projects in the transmission market.
Project Management Certification or PMP certification is preferred but not mandatory.
