This prestigious project involves significant and complex civils and highways infrastructure works. We are seeking an experienced Project Director with a strong background in managing high-value, large-scale infrastructure or local authority construction projects.

About the Role:

As Project Director, you will assume overall strategic and operational responsibility for delivering the civil and highways components of a major campus development. You will ensure all aspects are executed to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. Acting as the senior point of contact for the client, executive stakeholders, and delivery teams, you will lead the project from inception through to completion.

You will be accountable for aligning project objectives with organizational goals, managing risk, maintaining governance, and ensuring delivery on time and within budget. This is a high-impact leadership role, ideal for a senior professional with strong commercial, technical, and stakeholder engagement expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the delivery of complex highways and civil engineering projects within a live campus or urban environment
  • Direct and oversee all stages of the project lifecycle: design, procurement, construction, handover, and post-project review
  • Lead cross-functional teams, ensuring effective collaboration between local authorities, consultants, utility providers, and contractors
  • Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, environmental, and CDM regulations
  • Take ownership of programme performance, budget control, forecasting, and risk management
  • Drive stakeholder engagement, maintain client relationships, and manage high-level reporting to executive leadership
  • Lead contract negotiation, claims management, and commercial administration
  • Chair strategic project boards and represent the project at senior-level forums

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in leading complex, high-value infrastructure or campus development projects
  • In-depth knowledge of civil and highways engineering principles and delivery methods
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and manage diverse stakeholder groups
  • Strong commercial acumen and expertise in contract management
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • SMSTS certification and valid UK driving license essential
