Job Type: Permanent

Working Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday

About the Company:

A growing renewable energy developer and independent power producer (IPP) with a strong global presence is expanding its UK team. With over 1 GW of operational renewable assets and a development pipeline exceeding 30 GW, the company is dedicated to delivering sustainable energy solutions that benefit communities and the environment.

About the Role:

As a Project Development Engineer, you will be integral to the design, optimisation, and delivery of solar PV and energy storage projects. This role combines technical design, project coordination, and stakeholder engagement throughout the development lifecycle.

You will develop detailed technical designs, optimise system performance, lead technical due diligence, manage contractor relationships, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Collaboration with lenders’ technical advisors, Owner’s Engineers, and Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) will be key.

This role offers a varied and hands-on experience supporting renewable energy infrastructure from early design through to construction and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimise solar PV and storage system designs using industry-standard software (e.g., PVsyst, AutoCAD).
  • Analyse site constraints and performance data to maximise energy yield.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation for construction and commissioning.
  • Coordinate technical due diligence and engage with lenders’ technical advisors.
  • Lead tender processes, including RFQ preparation, technical evaluation, and contractor management.
  • Define and manage technical contractual requirements and compliance (e.g., PAC processes).
  • Conduct site inspections and oversee factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT).
  • Manage grid connection and permitting with network operators.
  • Support integration of new acquisitions into asset management systems.
  • Liaise effectively with Owner’s Engineers, ICPs, contractors, and other stakeholders.

What are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Renewable Energy Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in utility-scale solar PV project design and delivery.
  • Proficiency with PV design and CAD tools (e.g., PVsyst, AutoCAD, PVCase).
  • Strong analytical skills with an emphasis on system optimisation and performance.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, grid connection processes, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Desirable:

  • Experience with energy storage project design and operation.
  • Familiarity with Owner’s Engineer and lender technical advisory processes.
  • Understanding of contractor management and tender evaluation.
  • Knowledge of Independent Connection Provider (ICP) frameworks.

What's on offer?

  • Competitive salary package of up to £60,000
  • Performance-related bonus scheme
  • 28 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Pension contribution
  • Hybrid working model
