Description
An opportunity has arisen to join our UK team as a Project Developer.
This is a broad position which will support all aspects of project development (wind, solar & BESS), with a particular focus on the early stages of development.
This role is designed to transition into the Development Manager position over time and will work from our Manchester office on a hybrid basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support in identifying and assessing the feasibility of grid-scale onshore wind, solar PV and battery storage projects in the UK.
- Working in close collaboration with the wider Origination team, you will utilise and maintain the Company’s in-house ArcGIS mapping software to identify new opportunities; create constraints information and assess local permitting and development considerations for individual projects.
- Support the identification, evaluation, design, planning, development and commercial analysis of new grid-scale onshore wind, solar PV and battery storage projects.
- Assess the suitability of land from a planning, environmental, technical, grid and development risk perspective.
- Analyse wind and other meteorological data to develop and optimise wind turbine and solar site layouts.
- Build and manage a pipeline of early-stage feasibility projects.
- Complete high-level financial modelling to assess the economic viability of new projects.
- Support in the preparation and presentation of internal approval memos for projects seeking budget approval and coordinate the associated governance process with the relevant Cubico teams.
- Identify and liaise with landowners and their agents, and where required, provide support in negotiation of Exclusivity, Heads of Terms and Option and Lease agreements.
- Supporting the team with anticipating and mitigating development risk.
- Management of internal and external resources to meet milestones and delivery of projects
- Undertake site visits to assess site feasibility and accompany the land team to discuss proposed projects with landowners.

Key Skills and Capabilities
- Project management and/or business development skills with the ability to support and manage complex projects and identify and mitigate project risks.
- Knowledge of the environmental and land-use planning effects of developing new onshore wind, solar PV and battery storage projects.
- Experience of utilising ArcGIS mapping software, including data management and spatial analysis.
- Analytical problem solver, with an ability to combine technical, planning and commercial knowledge to ensure successful development of projects.
- Strong computer literacy skills.
- Well organised, self-motivated and have a good attention to detail.
- Strong written and presentation skills
- Good communicator with the ability to build and maintain relationships internally and externally.
- Ability to collaborate and work across multiple functions.
Experience
- Previous experience of working for a renewable energy developer would be advantageous, however, an enthusiastic character, with the ability to display determination, drive and the motivation to learn new skills is more important
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in planning, engineering, science or other relevant renewable energy/environmental discipline.
Additional Requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to use ArcGIS and/or other mapping software would be desirable.
- Flexible and willing to travel across the UK to meet external stakeholders
