Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley is seeking a Project Design Engineer - Civil to join our innovative design‑and‑build teams in the UK. You will lead the design of water and wastewater infrastructure from outline to detailed design, coordinating a multi‑disciplinary project team to deliver on time and within budget.

You’ll work within a flexible environment that supports home, office and site settings, with opportunities to progress toward chartership and develop cross‑discipline expertise.

Qualifications

  • Accredited degree in civil engineering.
  • Incorporated Member of Engineering Institution.
  • Outline and detailed design experience of water or wastewater projects.
  • Knowledge of the Designer or Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of treatment or infrastructure projects from outline to detailed design, through construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Coordinate the project team including civil, electrical, mechanical and process designers, BIM modelers and technical specialists to meet programme and budget.
  • Undertake design in own discipline and mentor less experienced colleagues where appropriate.
  • Build positive relationships with clients’ project, operational and technical assurance teams and promote a one-team approach.

Mott MacDonald Bentley is a fully integrated design and build business combining the design expertise of Mott MacDonald with the contracting experience of JN Bentley to deliver award winning projects.

In November 2023, MMB secured its first ever framework with South West Water, the company responsible for the water and wastewater services of 1.8 million customers in Cornwall, Devon, the Isles of Scilly and parts of Dorset and Somerset. What does a Project Design Engineer - Civil do day to day?

Working as part of a "project triangle" alongside a Site Manager and Quantity Surveyor to ensure that technical, constructability and commercial aspects of project delivery are considered throughout.

Leading the design of treatment or infrastructure projects from the initial outline to detailed design, through construction, commissioning, and handover

Coordinating the project team including civil, electrical, mechanical and process designers, BIM modelers and technical specialists and ensure designs are completed on programme, within budget, and to the quality defined by each framework and industry specifications

Undertake design in own discipline and mentor less experienced colleagues where appropriate

Building positive relationships with the clients’ project, operational and technical assurance teams and promote a "one-team" approach

What you’ll need:

Accredited Degree in Civil Engineering.

Incorporated Member of Engineering Institution.

Outline and detailed design experience of water or wastewater projects.

Knowledge of the Designer or Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015
