Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley is seeking a Civil Engineer Project Leader to contribute to water and wastewater projects across the UK, combining design and build expertise.

You will lead the design from outline to handover, coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, and work with clients to deliver compliant, on‑time solutions. This role offers agile working, site travel, and a clear path to chartership, with a strong emphasis on safety and collaboration.

  • Lead design of treatment or infrastructure projects from outline to handover.
  • Coordinate civil, electrical, mechanical and process designers, BIM modelers and technical specialists.
  • Mentor less experienced colleagues where appropriate.
  • Build strong relationships with clients’ project, operational and technical teams.

This is a Mott MacDonald Bentley role, employed by Mott MacDonald.Mott MacDonald Bentley is a joint venture business, established in 1999 between civil engineering contractor JN Bentley and global management consultancy, Mott MacDonald.

Mott MacDonald Bentley offers fully integrated design and build services to its clients, combining the contracting expertise of JN Bentley and the design specialisms of Mott MacDonald.

This role is employed by Mott MacDonald but will involve working across the joint venture business, both with Mott MacDonald and JN Bentley colleagues.

As a Civil Engineer Project Leader you will contribute to projects that significantly impact our environment and communities. Working primarily in the UK water market, MMB provides the feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning services needed to keep water flowing and wastewater treated. You’ll work on projects that make a real difference to our environment and our communities by enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of water and wastewater treatment systems.

This role combines elements of both traditional Project Management and Design Engineering, creating a unique work environment where you can thrive personally and professionally, accelerating your journey to chartership or developing your cross-discipline expertise.

The role of a Civil Engineer Project Leader includes:

  • Working as part of a “project triangle” alongside a Site Manager and Quantity Surveyor to ensure that technical, constructability and commercial aspects of project delivery are considered throughout.
  • Leading the design of treatment or infrastructure projects from the initial outline to detailed design, through construction, commissioning, and handover
  • Coordinating the project team including civil, electrical, mechanical and process designers, BIM modelers and technical specialists and ensure designs are completed on programme, within budget, and to the quality defined by each framework and industry specifications
  • Undertake design in own discipline and mentor less experienced colleagues where appropriate
  • Building positive relationships with the clients’ project, operational and technical assurance teams and promote a "one-team" approach
