Job summary

ALTEN is recruiting a Mechanical Project Engineer in the UK to support delivery of structural steelwork and engineering projects. The role involves coordinating activities across engineers, PMs, procurement, fabrication and construction, and maintaining compliant project documentation.

You will work within a fast-paced engineering environment, developing project delivery expertise while ensuring quality, timelines, and stakeholder communication across multiple disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Engineering or equivalent military experience.
• Experience managing engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Familiarity with nuclear, energy, fabrication, manufacturing or construction environments.
• Exposure to project planning tools: MS Project or Primavera P6.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of structural steelwork and engineering projects from design through installation.
• Coordinate activities between engineers, project management, procurement, fabrication and construction teams.
• Maintain project documentation, records, and compliance with requirements.
• Track deliverables, actions, risks and milestones.
• Organise meetings, workshops and design reviews, recording minutes and actions through to completion.
• Monitor the status of drawings, specifications, calculations and technical documentation.
• Support document submission and approval processes with clients and stakeholders.
• Assist with project reporting and progress updates.
• Maintain document registers, transmittals and project databases.
• Support change management and configuration control activities.
• Liaise with internal teams, clients, suppliers and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with quality management procedures and document control processes.

Job Description

ALTEN is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to support the delivery of complex structural steelwork and engineering projects. Working alongside Project Managers, Engineers and stakeholders, you will play a key role in coordinating project activities, managing engineering documentation and ensuring project deliverables are issued on time and in accordance with quality requirements.

This position would suit candidates who have gained experience within structural engineering, mechanical engineering, steelwork fabrication, construction, industrial projects or document control environments and are looking to develop their project delivery career within a fast-paced engineering setting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the successful delivery of structural steelwork and engineering projects from design through to installation.
• Coordinate activities between engineersproject management, procurement, fabrication and construction teams.
• Manage and maintain project documentation, ensuring records are accurate, up-to-date and compliant with project requirements.
• Track project deliverables, actions, risks and key milestones.
• Organise project meetings, workshops and design reviews, recording minutes and monitoring actions through to completion.
• Monitor the status of engineering drawings, specifications, calculations and technical documentation.
• Support document submission and approval processes with clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

• Previous experience as a Project Coordinator, Engineering Coordinator, Project Support Officer, Document Controller or similar position.
• Experience supporting engineering, construction, fabrication or infrastructure projects.
• Strong document management and project coordination experience.
• Ability to work across multiple stakeholders and technical disciplines.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.

Required Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, orequivalentmilitary experience.
• Experience managing engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with nuclear, energy,fabrication, manufacturing or construction environments.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Understanding of engineering project lifecycles from design through delivery.
• Experience within Energy, Nuclear, Infrastructure, Industrial or Construction sectors.
• Exposure to project planning or scheduling tools such as MS Project or Primavera P6.
