Job description

As a Control Tower Winch Operator (Anchor Foreman) on a cable layer repair vessel, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating complex operations to keep the vessel in position for its operational duties. Based in the control tower, you will oversee and manage the winch and cable handling systems during cable laying, repair and retrieval operations. You are responsible for ensuring that all movements are executed with precision, safety and efficiency. As the operational nerve centre, the decisions you make will directly impact the success of the mission and the safety of the crew.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor cable handling systems and winches from the control tower.
  • Coordinate with deck crew, officers, and ROV teams for smooth operation execution.
  • Ensure accurate cable laying and retrieval according to engineering specifications and seabed maps.
  • Monitor and report real-time data, adjusting parameters as needed for safe cable tension and positioning.
  • Perform pre-operational checks and regular system diagnostics.
  • Log daily operations and maintain detailed records for technical and client reporting.
  • Maintain constant communication with the bridge and deck to ensure safety compliance.

We expect the following:

  • Valid certification: STCW and experience with 6 or 8 mooring point handling.
  • You have a UK visa – there are no exceptions for this position!
  • Proven experience in offshore cable laying operations or heavy subsea winch/cable handling.
  • Familiarity with control tower and remote operation systems for winch and tension control.
  • Strong understanding of cable laying techniques and seabed interaction.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Strong multitasking and situational awareness skills, especially under pressure.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Willingness to work rotational shifts and extended offshore assignments.
