In your new role as Project Commercial Manager, you will play a crucial role in enhancing project commercial outcomes, driving commercial best practice and learning, and supporting project managers in commercial matters. You will mitigate risks, manage change, minimise lost margin, and foster commercial best practices to boost project performance and client satisfaction. Reporting to the Commercial Manager of Water and working with the Business Unit Operations Director and commercial team, your responsibilities span multiple projects and Frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate: Assist PMs, Project Directors, and Lead Verifiers in the commercial management of projects to ensure successful delivery.
  • Provide Expertise: Apply knowledge of contract and risk management to enhance project performance, including contract communications, change management, programme, delay damages, key contract dates and insurances. Carry out detailed analyses of challenged projects and report on issues from commercial and finance compliance perspectives.
  • Ensure Quality: Use contract administration platforms such as CEMAR and Asite to oversee client communications and instructions. Manage changes with a focus on commercial implications and risk/opportunity.
  • Oversee: Participate in project reviews and commercial discussions with clients and suppliers, ensuring action items are executed and subcontract documents support a back-to-back position.
  • Mentor: Coach technical staff to heighten their commercial awareness and expertise.
  • Deliver: Work to reduce disallowed costs and efficiently manage expenditures from AECOM and its supply chain. Contribute to Go/No-Go documents for new projects or significant changes.
  • Scope of projects: Water Treatment Plants; Wastewater Treatment Plants; Flood Risk Management; Water Supply Systems; Hydraulic Modelling; River and Coastal Engineering; Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS); Desalination Projects; Water Resource Management; Irrigation Systems.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a legal, commercial or financial role within the engineering or construction industry.
  • Preferably a degree (or equivalent) in finance, law, quantity surveying, commercial management or an engineering discipline; postgraduate business qualifications are advantageous.
  • Knowledge of contract law with experience of forms such as NEC3, NEC4, government frameworks and bespoke design & build agreements.
  • Experience in project, commercial and risk management, including client-facing roles.
  • Experience communicating with clients, subcontractors and subconsultants to proactively resolve commercial performance concerns/risks.
