Project Assistant (Undergraduate Placement)

Fixed Term Contract until 31/03/2026

Grade 2 - £24,027 - £25,992

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 30 hours per week

Location: Birmingham

This is a great opportunity for an undergraduate student seeking paid work experience for up to 12 months with the Business Development and Innovation Team at Birmingham City Council.

You will support a small team focused on stimulating business activity and job creation within the City and region.

Your typical day may include handling enquiries for new programmes, organizing meetings, taking minutes, arranging briefing sessions with businesses and partners, marketing activities, updating databases, conducting financial and business assessments for funding applications, and attending investment panel meetings.

We are looking for committed individuals who are hardworking and eager to learn.

The Business Development and Innovation Team (BDI) provides strategic leadership within Birmingham City Council and the West Midlands region to enhance business confidence, encourage investment, stimulate activity, and create jobs through various business development programmes.

It has developed a broad portfolio of multi-million-pound initiatives.

The team is offering up to 12 months paid placements for third-year undergraduates to help deliver these programmes.

Purpose of the role

To support Project Managers and Coordinators in coordinating, delivering, and monitoring a range of business-related programmes aimed at improving Birmingham's economic prosperity and growth.
To assist in appraising funding requests, presenting business cases to investment panels, processing claims, and monitoring outcomes.
To help develop and maintain effective financial systems.
