Job description

Exclusive to GRØ Careers.

There comes a point where being a Project Architect stops being about proving you can run a job.

You’ve already done that.

The question becomes whether the studio around you is giving you the right projects, the right level of influence, and enough room to actually shape the work.

If you’re already trusted to lead projects, manage consultants and keep things moving - but want stronger design exposure, closer access to senior leadership, and a broader mix of genuinely interesting work - this is worth reading.

The Opportunity

Join a 40-strong, award-winning, design-led London studio with a leadership team that has spent years delivering major projects at the highest level.

The practice is deliberately medium-sized.

Large enough to work on serious projects.

Small enough that good Project Architects are visible, trusted and given real influence.

This is not a role for someone hoping to become a Project Architect.

It is for someone already operating at that level who wants a stronger platform for the next stage of their career.

The Work

The current UK pipeline is varied, with live and emerging opportunities across:

  • Cultural / arts
  • Hospitality / hotel
  • Workplace / commercial
  • Large-scale residential and mixed-use
  • Masterplanning and urban regeneration

A significant proportion of the immediate workload is design-stage focused, with strong activity around feasibility, concept, planning and design development.

You won’t be joining to sit in one typology or one RIBA stage indefinitely.

The studio works across the full project lifecycle and values people who can move comfortably between design, coordination and delivery.

What This Looks Like In Practice

You’ll be expected to:

  • Take ownership of projects or major workstreams
  • Work closely with a Director, with enough confidence and judgement to keep things moving independently
  • Lead client and consultant coordination
  • Manage programme, information, actions and deliverables
  • Make and defend design decisions
  • Stay hands-on with the architecture rather than becoming purely managerial
  • Contribute meaningfully to concept, planning and design development
  • Use Revit as a genuine day-to-day project tool
  • Support and develop more junior members of the team
  • Carry projects forward as they move into later stages

The important distinction is ownership.

Not simply being present on good projects.

Actually being the person trusted to move them forward.

Who This Will Suit

You’re likely to be someone who:

  • Is already operating as a genuine Project Architect
  • Has clear evidence of independently running projects or significant workstreams
  • Is comfortable leading conversations with clients and consultants
  • Can explain what you personally designed, decided, coordinated and delivered
  • Has strong front-end design instincts
  • Is confident in Revit
  • Has worked in a respected UK / London practice environment
  • Wants to remain close to the design while taking on greater leadership
  • Is ambitious, but doesn’t need a title to prove it

Cultural, residential, hospitality, workplace or mixed-use experience would all be relevant, but exact sector alignment matters less than quality, judgement and genuine responsibility.

Why People Tend To Stay
  • Serious project scale without the anonymity of a huge studio
  • Direct access to highly experienced senior leadership
  • Genuine trust and responsibility
  • Strong design culture
  • Broad sector exposure
  • Hybrid working
  • Competitive salary + bonus
  • Annual international study trips
  • Clear progression into more senior leadership for people who earn it
