Job summary

A leading company is seeking a Programme Officer to join the Bristol Education Vision Project. This role involves supporting project delivery, coordinating reporting, and managing stakeholder engagement within a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will work on a hybrid basis and contribute to transforming Children’s Services in Bristol.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience supporting delivery in a programme, portfolio, or project environment, ideally in public sector or education.
  • Strong organisational skills and experience managing reporting processes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Job description

We are working with a Bristol City Council who are looking for a skilled Programme Officer to join the Bristol Education Vision Project and help drive transformation across Children’s Services. At the heart of a portfolio, programme or project, the PO provides principle support to the Portfolio/Programme/Project Manager, deputising when necessary, to enable successful delivery of the associated objectives.

Location:Bristol City Council

Set-up: Hybrid

Rate:£390/day via umbrella, inside IR35

Duration: Initial 6-month sign-off, likely extension

Hours:Full-time position

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for programme stakeholders, resolving issues and escalating as necessary
  • Coordinate programme reporting, compiling data from multiple sources to produce Highlight Reports and other documentation
  • Lead the delivery of defined work packages or projects, including monitoring associated budgets
  • Manage governance arrangements including Board meetings, actions tracking and decision-making records
  • Support quality assurance and compliance with project management standards, maintaining control documents and a central document repository

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience supporting delivery within a programme, portfolio, or project environment, ideally in public sector or education
  • Strong organisational skills with experience managing reporting processes, governance, and action tracking
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, apply sound judgment, and proactively resolve issues in a fast-paced setting
  • Knowledge of programme/project management frameworks and tools, with attention to documentation, compliance, and delivery standards
