Your key responsibilities include managing programme documentation, monitoring risks and issues, drafting papers, coordinating stakeholder meetings, and managing progress trackers. This role offers hybrid working with a Wakefield base.

Ideally, you are a detail-focused, proactive organiser with strong stakeholder skills. You will enjoy working in complex, multi-partner settings and making a real difference to health-driven economic participation across our communities.

Main duties of the job

As Programme Support Manager, you will play a vital role in coordinating the Healthy Working Life Programme, a system-wide initiative designed to reduce economic inactivity due to ill health. This is a fast-paced, hands-on project management role, supporting the delivery and mobilisation of over a dozen health, prevention, and employment-based interventions across Wakefield.

Reporting to the Strategic Programmes and Health Inequalities Lead (Place Lead), you will work alongside intervention leads, delivery partners, finance, BI and analytics, local authority, VCSE providers, and NHS organisations. You will support smooth programme functioning by tracking actions, managing programme governance, preparing briefing materials, coordinating meetings, and ensuring timely reporting and risk oversight.

You will also liaise with regional colleagues and contribute to the oversight of programme delivery across all three pillars. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on collaboration, is highly organised, and enjoys making complex programmes run smoothly. You will be part of a supportive, forward-thinking team with a shared commitment to delivering lasting change for communities.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary

As Programme Support Manager, you will support the successful delivery of the Wakefield Work and Health Economic Accelerator Programme, working across funded interventions led by programme/commissioning leads across the Wakefield District Health and Care Partnership. This role will coordinate project activity, support alignment across intervention areas and across all accelerator pillars, and contribute to programme development and evaluation.

The role will support the development of a Provider Collaborative Community of Practice (CoP) to connect interventions, encourage shared learning, and maximise programme impact.

You will support the Place Programme Lead to bring together and support intervention leads across all three pillars of work to support Wakefield in achieving its outcomes of reducing economic inactivity.

The Programme Support Manager will require significant involvement with stakeholders from a wide range of services including at the executive level (e.g., West Yorkshire delivery team) and interaction with other place leads. Internally, with the Director of Strategy and Partnerships, place commissioning leads, provider leads, local authorities, VCSE, hospital Trust, BI, and evaluation leads.

In addition, this post will be responsible for maintaining excellent project management processes to support the overall monitoring and coordination of the programmes within the Wakefield Economic Accelerator Programme.

You will have practical project management experience or demonstrable transferable project management skills. The role also involves contributing to other work areas as required, where delivery responsibilities may be outside your remit; therefore, excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential to influence stakeholders across various organisations.

This work will also require connecting the work into the wider Trailblazer and Pathfinder initiatives across the district, working with DWP and WYCA colleagues.

We are piloting a hybrid working model where staff work some of their time in the office and the remainder from home, so the ability to work independently and manage complex deadlines and workstreams is key to this role.
