Job description

Job Description

London Gatwick offers an exciting opportunity for a Programme Planning Manager to join our dynamic team at the world's most efficient single runway airport. Be a part of shaping our future, supporting the delivery of a substantial investment plan to develop and enhance our airport infrastructure and facilities.

The Programme Planning Manager (Major Projects) will play a key role in supporting the Programme Manager in delivering the strategic aims and objectives of the business through the development, implementation, and delivery of effective planning and assurance processes across a programme of projects.

The projects require significant expansion of our existing operational facilities and involve a mix of upfront diversionary works, civil works, and building construction. Your role will be crucial in helping Gatwick achieve its strategic goals for the next decade, enhancing our airport and facilities. As part of a multi-disciplinary team of construction industry experts, you will be involved from the early stages of projects, defining technical scopes, aligning project delivery with business requirements, and ensuring these are carried through from design to construction and handover.

Your primary focus will be on developing, implementing, and delivering effective planning and assurance processes across a programme of projects typically valued between £150m and £300m.

What is the role?

Reporting to the Lead Planning Manager, you'll take a key role in leading the planning of projects across all stages of their lifecycle, from concept approval to delivery and closeout. Your mission is to ensure performance targets are not just met but surpassed consistently and on time.

Other duties include:

  • Leading the planning function across the Major Projects Programme, applying your knowledge and skills across multiple projects to help achieve strategic goals.
  • Creating and maintaining schedules for the entire project journey, including managing control programmes from concept to closeout, evaluating contract programmes, assessing compensation events, conducting delay analysis, and driving schedule improvements through the supply chain.
  • Supporting the growth of the planning team by developing standards, managing, motivating, coaching, and mentoring team members.
  • Reviewing the Programme, assisting in trend and change management, reporting, risk management, and finding efficiencies to positively impact programme outcomes and team performance.
  • Upholding high standards of health, safety, and environmental practices across the programme and its contractors.

What are we looking for?

The environment at Gatwick requires a flexible, adaptable approach, problem-solving skills, and an innovative outlook. You'll have the opportunity to deliver strategic project objectives and lead projects from inception to completion. The role requires:

  • Experience planning infrastructure projects as a Planning Manager on multi-year programmes within construction or infrastructure sectors, typically on projects/programmes over £100 million.
  • Experience leading small teams.
  • Extensive experience with Primavera P6 and related commercial acumen.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership, influencing skills, and the ability to motivate, coach, and facilitate learning.

What do I get?

Our employees describe working here as unique, with each day offering something special. Along with a competitive salary, employees enjoy various personal, health, and financial benefits, including:

  • 5% Welcome Bonus
  • Performance-based bonus scheme
  • Discounts at high street shops and restaurants
  • Healthcare scheme
  • Life and insurance benefits
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Discounted travel
  • Volunteer days
