JOB PURPOSE

The Programme Manager is responsible for the delivery and governance of programmes within their domain. They will lead a team of project managers responsible for delivering projects within an agreed budget and roadmap, as defined by the capability streams. They will operate across a complex, multi-function, multi-vendor, global environment and own a delivery capability encompassing internal and external resources, with deep knowledge and focus on delivery. The Programme Manager will oversee projects in the Customer Technology space, collaborating closely with the Senior Manager - Product, Central Portfolio Management, and the business. They will ensure governance and standard ways of working across all delivery streams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leading projects and programmes end-to-end, from inception and vision creation through to acceptance into service and support.

Managing programme financials, including initial business case, estimates, budgets, and forecasts across Opex and Capex.

Proactively managing a complex stakeholder environment up to executive level across multiple internal functions and locations.

Leading and managing internal resources across a matrix organization and globally across a supplier landscape.

Creating and maintaining an accurate programme-wide RAID log, ensuring relevant parties are involved in addressing each factor.

Directly managing experienced project managers and/or workstream leads within the programme, mentoring and developing their careers.

Establishing approaches to ensure benefits realization and measuring those benefits against the business case across the programme.

Closing programmes and conducting lessons learned sessions to capture knowledge and share it with other programme and project managers.

PERSONAL PROFILE

• Delivered £1-10m projects/programmes on time and within budget.

• Experience with multiple project delivery methodologies (waterfall, agile, hybrid).

• Ability to apply creative and pragmatic thinking to problem solving.

• Capable of working autonomously with excellent attention to detail.

• Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to prioritize and influence stakeholders internally and externally.

• Self-motivated, driven, proactive, and adaptable to fast-paced environments.

• Ability to view the business case holistically, guiding programme execution with an understanding of the broader decision-making context.

• Strong judgment and accountability for project decisions.

• Experienced line manager and mentor, capable of coaching others.

• Experience in the Retail industry.
