The Role
As a Programme Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll lead a high-profile, mission-critical programme within the Space Business Unit of Mission Systems. This role is central to the modernisation and transformation of Skynet, ensuring the delivery of cutting-edge technology to support UK defence capabilities.

Day-to-day, you’ll oversee the successful execution of complex projects, driving change and innovation in satellite communications.

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver systems for the UK’s Military Satellite Communications capability, Skynet.
  • Drive the planning and coordinated delivery of change and transformation projects essential for the long-term sustainability of the Skynet programme.
  • Engage and collaborate at a senior level with Babcock leadership, MoD stakeholders, and Commercial Partners.
  • Ensure programme milestones, budgets, and performance objectives are met while maintaining high standards of quality and security.
  • Ensure all areas of the programme are suitably resourced to deliver against customer requirements, schedule, and price, ensuring continuous improvement.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides flexible hybrid working arrangements with days onsite and days working from home.


Essential Experience of the Programme Manager

We’re looking for a dynamic and accomplished leader who can navigate complexity and drive success in a fast-paced, highly technical environment. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in programme management within space, defence, or complex engineering domains.
  • Experience in delivering a programme, where staff are dispersed across several sites.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively at a senior level.
  • A solution-oriented mindset, with the confidence and tenacity to overcome challenges.
  • Experience delivering large-scale transformation and change programmes.

Qualifications for the Programme Manager

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in relevant technical or management discipline.
  • Recognised project management qualifications, ideally accredited by the Association for Project Management.
  • Holds SC level security clearance, or willing to achieve.
  • A full passport and driving license.

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. The successful candidate may be required to achieve Developed Vetting (DV) security check once in post.
