Programme and Commercial Director - Water Industry

RPS has an opportunity for a Programme and Commercial Director supporting delivery of our role as United Utilities Strategic Solutions Partner in their Better Rivers Programme. The Director will build strong client relationships in the Northwest of England, requiring travel and working from client offices in Lingley Mere (Warrington) twice weekly.

This role suits those with experience in water/wastewater projects in leadership roles with strong commercial management skills at programme level.

This is a unique opportunity for a candidate experienced in leading large water sector programmes. As a key member of our framework leadership team, you will work directly with our Framework Director and Regional Programme Managers to deliver wastewater projects within challenging timescales and budgets.

About The Team:

Our Water Consulting team includes Engineers, Modellers, and Data Analysts providing Asset Management and Operational Strategy to water industry clients. We work across several major water companies in the UK, managing long-term framework agreements, including prestigious AMP8 programmes leading into AMP9 and beyond, securing your career for the next 20 years.

About You:

You will be a key team member, delivering projects for water industry clients, working with multidisciplinary water project experts. Joining us means working on impactful projects, collaborating with leading minds, and making a lasting difference in communities.

Your Responsibilities:

The Director, working with the Framework Director, is responsible for overall programme delivery and profitability. Key duties include:

  • Leading and collaborating with Regional Programme Managers.
  • Working with Project Managers to meet profitability targets.
  • Coordinating delivery programmes across the framework.
  • Resource planning and management.
  • Reviewing and approving call-off contract proposals.
  • Identifying and managing risks and opportunities.
  • Reporting to the framework board, client, and stakeholders.
  • Building high-performing teams.
  • Driving efficiency and optimisation.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

The candidate will be pragmatic, collaborative, and experienced in delivering major water sector programmes. Requirements include:

  • Experience in delivering large water projects/programmes.
  • Development and execution of commercial strategies.
  • Strong commercial acumen and profitability management.
  • Team building and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to coordinate teams towards successful outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in collaborative negotiation.
