Professor of Science and Innovation in Medical Education

Salary £72,685 to £84,274 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

About the role

As Professor of Science and Innovation, you will take a senior leadership role as Director of Curriculum Integration at the University of Nottingham's School of Medicine. You will be responsible for shaping and overseeing the strategic development, integration, and advancement of the Science and Innovation theme across the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) undergraduate degree programme.

You will play a pivotal part in fostering students' understanding of scientific principles, technological advancements and innovative practices and build a new integrated curriculum spanning Years 1 to 5 of the medical degree programme.

This role presents an exciting opportunity for an accomplished academic to lead in our transformation of the BMBS curriculum, integrating science and innovation across multiple years within the curriculum of future medical professionals. You will enhance teaching and learning on the medical programme and contribute significantly to excellence in medical education and research at the University of Nottingham.

About you

You will have a high research and teaching experience in a relevant discipline, normally supported by a PhD; HESA-Recognised teaching qualification, at least, to Associate Fellowship of Advance HE or recognised equivalent; experience and capability to act as role model in the areas of research, teaching, consultancy and management/administration as appropriate; and a record of professional success and achievement.

You will have excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex and conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding as well as to peers, using high level skills and a range of media; you will have a high analytical ability to facilitate conceptual thinking, innovation and creativity; proven ability to lead teams and meet deadlines; proven ability to provide effective leadership and management in teaching and curriculum development, underpinned by scholarship; and skills in coaching and developing others in best practice techniques.

You will have extensive teaching experience as evidenced by a proven record of excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching; a leading authority in Medical/Health-Related Education, with a considerable national and international reputation; you will have extensive experience in developing and implementing new integrated curricula and teaching programmes, methods and techniques, preferably in a medical education context; and extensive experience in science and innovation, with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration.
