Contract Type: Full-time, open-ended

Hybrid working: Loughborough University is committed to allowing its employees to work dynamically with a combination of working on campus and remotely, where possible.

About Us

This is an exciting time to join the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical & Manufacturing Engineering, the largest engineering school at Loughborough and one of the largest in the UK. The school has a broad and diverse research portfolio, including manufacturing sciences, renewable technologies, systems engineering, and applied high energy physics addressing energy challenges. The school features high-quality laboratories and offers opportunities for further development to explore emerging fields.

Recent investments support hydrogen energy and extreme environmental materials analysis and characterization. These initiatives are backed by substantial university and external funding. The West Park facilities include shared resources like the Loughborough Materials Characterisation Centre (LMCC), which provides advanced scientific instruments and materials characterization facilities accessible to staff.

The school employs around 250 staff across various job families and educates approximately 2000 students at UG, PG, and research levels across 4 main buildings and smaller satellite facilities.

Role and What We’re Looking For:

We seek an experienced Professor in Pulsed Power/Electromagnetic Systems to lead our research group. The successful candidate will oversee a team with decades of research in high energy electromagnetics and pulsed power, with applications in civil and defense sectors. The candidate will manage a team of academics, researchers, technicians, and support staff, and oversee the group's laboratories. The group is part of the Dstl EME Hub (https://emehub.org/), involving a broad partnership of academic, government, and industry stakeholders.

We are looking for someone with experience in securing and leading contract research and consultancy, with a history of managing research teams and delivering on projects, and engaging with external stakeholders.

To be successful, you will:
