Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead clinical service delivery for Gait Analysis and FES services.
  • Line-manage staff and contribute to workforce development and succession planning.
  • Deliver training to clinical scientist trainees and engineering apprentices.
  • Drive service improvement, efficiency initiatives, and quality management.
  • Oversee FES equipment and consumables inventory.
  • Develop services in line with national standards and ISO9001 quality systems.
  • Initiate and supervise research studies and clinical evaluations.
  • Review rehabilitation equipment for clinical applicability and safety.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to play a leading role in advancing clinical and innovation within Rehabilitation Engineering service. This is a leadership position combining clinical service delivery, research & innovation (R&I), and operational management, supporting the strategic direction of Rehabilitation Engineering and Measurement section while ensuring excellence in day-to-day service provision.

The post holder will require to be committed to service delivery and collaborative working within multi-disciplinary teams as well as managing a small team of Clinical Scientists and Rehabilitation Engineers across a range of professional areas including gait analysis and functional electrical stimulation as well as clinical measurement and wheelchairs, orthotics and prosthetics service. There will also be scope for the post holder to participate in a range of professional duties including training others, business planning, quality assurance, clinical evaluation and audit work.

The Rehabilitation Engineering and Measuring service is part of Medical Physics and Engineering at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, which comprises approximately 200 staff and has an annual turnover of £8m. The Rehabilitation Engineering and Measurement services are responsible for service delivery of Gait Analysis clinical service, Functional Electrical (FES) Service and provides technical/sceintific support for Renal Department and the Specialist Rehabilitation Service including Wheelchairs, Prosthetics and Orthotic Department.

What You Will Bring To The Role

The post holder manages a small team of healthcare scientists with some key Responsibilities highlighted below:

  • Responsible for service delivery and operational leadership in Gait Analysis Service; FES Service and technical service for Specialist Rehabilitation such as Wheelchair Service.
  • Line-manage staff and contribute to workforce development and succession planning
  • Responsible for delivery of training in rehabilitation of clinical scientist trainees and engineering apprentices
  • Lead service improvement and efficiency initiatives
  • Responsible for FES equipment and consumables
  • Develops and maintains services in line with national standards and guidelines
  • Integrates service development work into the Department’s quality management system to complies with the ISO9001 quality standards.
  • Undertakes, advises on, identifies the need for or initiates and supervises research studies
  • Reviews and evaluates highly specialist rehabilitation equipment on the market for suitability for clinical use and makes recommendations on applicability.
  • Investigates accidents and adverse incidents involving assistive technology equipment
