Overview

Reporting directly to the Director of Nursing and Professions, you will provide leadership and strategic direction for AHPs (as defined by the HCPC), developing and implementing standards across the Trust which support professional development and leadership, competence, capacity and standards of conduct leading to safe, high quality, efficient patient care. Professional leadership will involve providing advice and consultation to the clinical Divisions on how best to ensure the AHP workforce is utilised across Trust services. The role will provide senior leadership and clinical experience / expertise and support, to AHPs and AHP Support Staff; so they remain highly motivated, resilient and well-equipped to provide excellent care. Please note that a Fixed Term or Secondment would also be considered.

Main duties

The role will be responsible for horizon scanning relevant national / local / system policy, legislation, reports etc. relevant to AHP practice to ensure preparedness for and implementation of any required developments / changes; and provide the Chief Nurse / Director of Nursing and Professions with appropriate briefings. The role has responsibility across both the clinical and corporate divisions, ensuring the responsibilities of the Director of Nursing and Professions are supported; and key external relationships are maintained and developed with other partners in the health and social care community in delivering community-wide objectives as required.

Provide advice, support and guidance to Director of Nursing and Professions senior managers / leaders and clinical staff on issues relating to AHP care to ensure compliance with national and local agendas. Provide strong strategic direction and professional leadership on all aspects of AHP services and bring the AHP perspective to the executive decision-making process. Ensure that AHP services are planned, developed and monitored in line with current and projected priorities, Trusts strategic direction, commissioning priorities and the wider context of ICS. Contribute to the implementation of the NHS Long Term Plan, NHS People Plan, CQC Standards, AHPs into Action, AHPs Deliver, NICE guidance, and other relevant national and local policies for AHP services. Lead on AHP workforce development to determine the correct level of staffing to meet patient safety and quality requirements, activity levels and innovative service delivery, working with senior multidisciplinary clinical leaders to ensure the best multidisciplinary workforce model including new ways of working, role development and Career framework for AHPs.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with Health and Care Professions Council. (HCPC)
  • Degree qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant AHP profession. or Master\'s degree (or equivalent experience) relevant to an AHP profession
  • Management and/or leadership qualification at a post graduate certificate/ diploma level or equivalent experience
  • Registered with an AHP profession specific professional college/society

Experience

  • Experience in an AHP senior leadership and / or management role
  • Extensive clinical experience in an Allied Health Profession in at least two differing specialist areas of mental health / learning disability / autism
  • Highly developed knowledge of AHP professional groups and national drivers supporting AHP services
  • An understanding and experience of application of mental health policy
  • Evidence of previous experience of working within a complex and challenging environment and of delivering targets at senior level
  • Able to demonstrate evidence of effective staff development and professional leadership
  • Experience of leading successful organisational change and development
  • Experience of formulating and managing a range of budgets and contracts
  • Experience of presenting complex and sensitive information
  • Evidence of personal contribution as a strong team player, facilitating effective team-working to deliver outcomes
