Job description


The Production Unit Leader will be responsible for managing small work teams in a fast-paced, high-volume, unionized manufacturing environment. The Production Unit Leader's responsibilities include ensuring team safety; building teams and training/allocating manpower; driving and implementing continuous improvement solutions to enhance product quality and achieve throughput and cost targets; and maintaining team morale. The selected candidate's duties will include, but are not limited to, coordinating activities to meet business metrics and implementing the Stellantis Production Way (SPW) lean manufacturing processes and initiatives:



  • Ensure the production plan is met, analyze issues with other roles, drive and implement continuous improvement activities, and sustain solutions within the Zone.

  • Maintain a safe workplace, lead the team to improve safety, and enforce safety tools and procedures.

  • Understand losses during the shift, utilize financial metrics to coordinate lean manufacturing activities, and improve Zone performance.

  • Analyze quality KPIs proactively, prioritize quality issues, and guide Team Leaders appropriately.

  • Ensure proper allocation of personnel on the line, manage absenteeism, and focus on team training and development.

  • Possess knowledge of the broader manufacturing organization and mobilize support groups and resources for problem-solving activities.

  • Lead and participate in kaizen projects focused on Safety, Cost, Quality, Throughput, and waste reduction opportunities identified through cost deployment.



Basic Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or GED

  • Ability to work any shift and overtime as required

  • Excellent organization, written, and oral communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with employees at all levels of the plant, from hourly workers to senior leadership

  • Ability to build effective relationships with plant leadership and customers

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Goal-oriented self-starter with team leadership abilities

  • Ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field

  • Two or more years of supervisory experience in a high-volume environment

  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members

  • Previous experience working in a union environment

  • Experience with continuous improvement systems and lean manufacturing
