Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking an ambitious Production Technician to join the Pharmacy team in the Cytotoxic Chemotherapy Production Unit, City Campus. You will work in aseptic formulation, supporting vulnerable patients with high-quality medicines.

Candidates should be registered science or pharmacy technicians, or be willing to undertake the SMT course over two years. Training pathway and Agenda for Change pay arrangements apply.

Qualifications

  • Educated to GCSE Grade C/4 English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Evidence of training to Level 2 Pharmacy Support Services.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Aseptic Pharmaceuticals Processing is desirable.
  • Aseptic dispensing course or equivalent training in aseptic manufacturing is desirable.
  • Qualified/registered Pharmacy Technician (GPhC) or RSciTech is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform aseptic production duties in the Chemotherapy Production Unit in line with SOPs and MHRA guidance.
  • Work 37.5 hours per week (Mon–Fri) with potential shift patterns including evenings and weekends.
  • Assist in providing high-quality, safe, timely aseptic services for patients.
  • Maintain GMP standards, quality control, and accurate documentation.

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Production Technician to join the Pharmacy team in the Cytotoxic Chemotherapy Production Unit, City Campus, at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH). You will be joining a team of hardworking and dedicated professionals who formulate, prepare and aseptically compound medicines for our most vulnerable patients.

You will be a Registered Science Technician with the Science Council or GPhC Registered Pharmacy Technician. If you do not currently possess the required qualification and registration status, you must be willing to undertake the Science Manufacturing Technician (SMT) course to gain these, in order to fulfil all elements of the job role. The SMT course runs over a 2 year period where tutoring sessions will be delivered online by subject matter experts weekly, accompanied by study time to complete relevant coursework and assignments.

*The post holder must be in possession of Level 3 relevant Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent qualification and be a registered GPhC or RSciTech Technician to work at AfC Band 4. Where the post holder is offered as a training role, as they are working towards the L3 qualification, the salary will be determined at the point of offer based on the successful candidate's experience, qualifications and agreed development pathway. Appropriate Agenda for Change pay arrangements will apply.

The post holder will undertake all technical duties in the Chemotherapy Production Unit, participating in the provision of all aseptic services, in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and MHRA guidance, to ensure a high-quality, safe, timely and consistent service and contributing to the overall operation of the department.

Job responsibilities

You'll need to be able to work 37.5 hours Mon-Fri, as the service develops, you may be required to work a shift system including 7 day working patterns. The department offers a weekend and bank holiday service which you will be expected to participate in. Qualifications
  • To demonstrate they can be trained, gain new skills and work to set levels of competency
  • Educated to GCSE Grade C/4 and above in English and Maths (or equivalent)
Desirable
  • Level 2 Qualification in Pharmacy Support Services (including Pharmacy Manufacturing Modules) or an equivalent Pharmacy Production Qualification or Experience
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with GPhC OR Registered Science Technician (RSciTech) with Science Council
  • Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Aseptic Pharmaceuticals Processing
  • Aseptic dispensing course attended, e.g. Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing of Medicines (Leeds University)
Experience
  • Some experience in relevant field of work i.e. pharmacy production, quality control, laboratory work
  • Ability to dispense aseptic products accurately following GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and SOP.
