Production Technician, 2nd Shift, Finishing Shop

Department: Various Manufacturing sites – Finishing Shop and others
Location: Onsite; FT Gearing offices, Aldershot, Hampshire, UK

Main Purpose of Job:

The role will involve operating various machines to produce precision spec components for clients in the aerospace and automotive industry, with the main focus on performing deburring processes including setting up, preparation of materials and tools, and operating machinery that grinds, smooths and buffs aerospace parts, ensuring they are conforming to drawing and specification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate machines.
  • Aid / Change machine setting from one job to another within a set time frame.
  • Deburr and hand finish parts to bring them to the desired shape and dimensions, in accordance with the design specifications as required by using established procedures, machines and tooling – training will be provided to cover all areas including fettling, polishing, part marking, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings.
  • Change and adjust machine parameters and tooling as required to meet dimensional and output requirements.
  • Able to use micrometers, verniers and other inspection equipment to check work to drawing dimensions and validation sheets.
  • Setting and running multiple machines when the component and/or batch sizes allow.
  • Meet desired quantities, conducting in-process inspection and checking against drawings and specifications to ensure they are made accurately and to the highest standards.
  • Deal with technical queries where possible, as and when required.
  • Support colleagues by assisting with other duties when required, to aid the smooth running of the Company.
  • Work in accordance to the quality system and processes of the Company.
  • Be punctual at all times.
  • Report any issues to the Manager or Supervisor asap.
  • Adhere to the company’s health and safety requirements in accordance with HSE legislation and complete training as required.

Skills and Qualifications/experience:

  • 3 – 5 years’ relevant experience in a similar industry/role.
  • The ability to use a range of measuring equipment.
  • Good math and technical skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of systematic problem solving.
  • Be proactive and a great team player.
  • To be a quick learner and adaptable to change.
  • Have excellent attention to detail.
  • Be able to work effectively and efficiently to meet target deadlines.
